im interested in getting my car painted flat black. I have never gotten a car painted before so i dont know if any paint shops will actualy do this.

This is to anyone who has ever done this before>

How does this paint stand up to the elements?

How much did it cost?

You wont be happy with it :banghead: The PO of my neon did the hood roof & trunk lid in flat black :eek7: Anyway I drove it that way for about a month untill there was an opening at the body shop. It was a real pain in the azz. You just cant keep it clean plus it just looks like a style of primer. :disappoin :2cents:

What up Bill? My car is painted flat black. I did it myself. I did it with spray paint. I used Krylon Ultra Flat black. I have a 180sx. It took about 8 cans to do my car. I did a half ass job in sanding down my car, washed it. Let it dry and just started painting. Of course I taped off the windows and covered my tires and rims. Using sweeping back and forth motions(press down when u start your sweeping motion and depress right before u finish the motion, this prevents the paint from running and lines) It costs about $2.50 a can. I suggest getting 8 or 9 cans(for make-up purposes) Also I suggest taking two days. The first time I painted my car I did it in one day and it took about 3 months for my index finger to properly heal, lol!The next time I painted the rear first, then the next day I painted the front, having a garage helps. When painting the hood, I advise removing it and painting it while it's leaned against something. Painting straight down is a pain in the ass and causes paint blotches. As for handling the weather. I live where it snows and rain a lot, it keeps up well as long as u take care to paint your car thoroughly. The main problem though is if u live in a sunny place the paint job will fade to grey. I paint my car every two years. Now if u get it done professionally I don't know. As for keeping it clean, I use the ultra flat black paint, it has a rough texture so when I wash it I can't use certain drying articles for example cotton towels that are very fluffy tends to leave cotton all over my car, but old towels seem to work well and keep my machine mean and clean! If u use just the flat black made by Krylon it leaves a smooth finish and is friendlier to washing and drying. But I love the light absorbing flat black! I hope this has helped u out. U might have seen my car before but here's what my flat black job looks like.

I'm thinking about doing that to my 91 rx-7, never seen one though so I'm not sure how it will look. I kinda want to do that so I don't have to pay out the arse to get it painted... plus its more original

Kumakun your car is freaking nice!! where you live? wanna paint mine? :loser:

there are actual flat/satin finish paints that body shops can get their hands on, and you can get the car spray professionally.
sport compact car had their project mini sprayed flat black...
they did it in the flat black that yamaha/honda (don't remember) uses on one of their bikes.
looks awesome, no "lines" or anything...
their project 240 is flat black too, and it looks sweet with gloss black decals on it...

most shops will paint your car a matte color, you might have to pay extra for that though, a professional job may use a matting agent in the regular automotive paint. Ask around your local body shops and you should get an idea of cost very quickly.

their mini cooper is deffinately not flat black, I don't care what they say, flat black is not shiny like that, and the mini is very shiny
