Here's another experience I had behind the wheel of a Mustang but first there is something I'd like to say. I've been a part of this fourm for a few weeks now and it is a very cool place to hang out. It's rare I get the chance to share stories and technical info with anyone who knows what they are talking about and wants to listen, my girlfriend does not. I plan on being a permanent fixture here, so here's a little about myself. Believe it or not I'm not a Ford man, or a Chevy man, not even Dodge, or import. I have a Ford, a Chevy, and yes even a Honda(although it has two wheels).
I addicted to anything fast, domestic or foriegn. I do lean tward American performance, nothing like a rumbleing V8 and rwd. I was raised building big block Chevys. Every Saturday night I was at the track with my father who was a true Chevy man so I had no interest in Fords until about the age of 15, when I drove my first Mustang, I was hooked. My first car was a 1986 GT, and my love has just grown since then. A Mustang, a Camaro, a 3000GT, is dosen't matter as long as it's fast. Given my choice I'd take a Stang but I am open minded. I don't see the point in these underpowered 4bangers with 150hp that want to be big dogs but hey, to each their own. Now on to the Lotus. This was a few years back and I was running a different motor. A 306 w/GT-40 heads intake, E303, and 3:55s with no bottle. This combo was good for mid 12s on a good day. Anyway it's very late since we just left the club and there is no one out. Out of nowhere my buddy yells "holy s... it's a Lotus", and there it sat right beside me. I had much less self control back then so I offer the challenge and instantly get a reply. With a green light and a good launch I jump to a good lead and kept slowly pulling on him. At about the 1/4 mark I've got him by a good 3 car lengths but neither of us let off. By the time I reach 130 I notice I'm not pulling on him anymore, at 140 he's on my bumper and as my speedo points twards the floor it's all over, taillights. I ate him through the quarter but I couldn't handle his top end. I follow him to the next open gas station and there we sat swaping stories and comparing cars until daylight. Even got to drive it. That is what I love about hot rods.

once i raced a viper and the guy crashed into the resturant i worked at. Racing high doller cars, especialy ones that are known for being so fast is incredibly exciting. I usualy never street race and am against it, but if some guy pulls next to me in something like that i wouldnt back down.
I have never seen a lotus in real life, only in books and stuff, what did it sound like?
Alot of those kind of cars are geared to have realy high top end, imagine what a nice set of gears would do.

The sound was very cool, not what I'm used to. Sort of reminded me of a Dodge Conquest I used to own, sort of. Just alot better. Not loud or obnixous like the typical 4banger w/a performance muffler, but almost quiet with an unmistakable hint of performance. It ran through the gears like a crotch rocket and schreamed like a banshee in the revs.

There is a late 80's, early 90's lotus parked down the road from me, but its a piece of shit one. Its slow and must be really cheap. It looks just like the white one in the bond movie(you know, the one thats also a submarine).

uh truthfully it was a very scary ordeal, was my first race ever. I though someone was gonna report my license plate to the police or something, so basicly i sat in my driveway crying for 15 minutes.

He drove mine as well, only fair of course. There are some cool people out there. So far you seem like an ass to me, I can see why no one would let you drive their ride.

LOL, parrish5o, i've had a bad day...but for some reason that was really funny. But i heard a lotus once, brand new green one with big chrome wheels, nice. Sounded like a turbochargerd v-8, loved the sound.
