I was told that it is possible to loose hp by adding a CAI or MAI and exhaust is there any truth to this

yes, if you put a shitty intake on with a very crappy filter that will get clogged right away it is possible to lose power. (more so of the short ram, the cai will give you a little bit better response) If you put on a huge exhaust (ie. 3" piping) on a small civic then yes, you will lose power.

If you have a short ram, and youve been driving around all day in hot weather, your engine bay is going to be super hot, so your intake will just be sucking in warm air, which means you will probably lose hp.
