2000 Monte SS Tranny Prob

The other day, my G/F and i were taking her SS to get the oil changed. when we pulled out to leave, the tranny jerked hard and there was a clunk sound. Her car drove fine after that, but we were only on 35 mph roads. Well, we left to go up to Jersey, and I realized that the car was not going into 4th gear. If you left off the gas, in Drive, the RPM's would drop to idle. Every other gear is fine.

Did a belt slip off maybe?

OK. we got the car looked at by a chevy dealer. He told us that 3&4 gear has melted together. A somewhat common problem on the tranny's.

Then he quoted us $3385 for a new one and install. We we are getting a built Jasper tranny installed for $2300.
