2004 Silverado fuel filter location

Am seeking information about the location of the fuel filter location on my 2004 Silverado 1500 ex-cab, two wheel drive, 5.3 ltr, auto, gasoline.
Two trips to the dealer were fruitless. Their drawings all show the location on the left frame rail near the driver's seat. It is not there. Please do not tell me it is on the frame rail. It is not. I have pictures of most locations. The dealer didn't know what to say. Any help out there from someone who really knows where it is would be appreciated.

Hey man i have a 00 5.3 and mine is on the drivers side under the truck back by the body panels, its like tucked high up in their. Also did u try Jiffy Lube??? they will tell you in a second because they have to know where it is...or just follow your fuel lines from your fuel rail back under the truck till u see it. Hope this helps.

The fuel filter is contained in the fuel sender assembly inside the fuel tank. the paper filter element of the fuel filter traps particles in the fuel that may damage the fuel injection system. The fuel filter housing is made to withstand maximum fuel system pressure, exposure to fuel additives, and changes in temperature. There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement

The fuel filter is located on the fuel feed pipe, between the fuel pump and the fuel injectors. The paper filter element (2) traps particles in the fuel that may damage the fuel injection system. The filter housing (1) is made to withstand maximum fuel system pressure, exposure to fuel additives, and changes in temperature. There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Replace a restricted fuel filter.

From the above my filter is in the fuel tank. The tank has to be emptied and dropped to change the filter element? That sounds like a bummer. Hope I don't have to do that ever. We have pretty bad gasoline here on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona though and that is what promted the question. Thanks for the info.

The filter on the 04 is not on the frame rail. Some time between 00 and 04 it was moved.
