Dodge Srt-4 lies

The dodge srt-4 is lied about by dodge. They say it has 205 to 230 when it really has about 270 something. I have SEEN a stock srt-4 beat a stock evo 8. They are extremely fast. Dodge lies about the stats to get teenagers insurance lower so they can buy the car and not hav ehigh insurance. They say it does 0-60 in 6.3 but it really does it in about 5 flat. I would most likely get this car over a WRX but i think the WRX looks SO damn much better. Also, it is a neon....... I raced one in my accord and it was an awesome race, i pulled ahead at the very end and therefore can sayi beat one but that was because i spent over 10g's on my accord. SO, there you go. I still disagree with people who say an srt-4 can beat an STi. First of all, the STi weighs NOTHING! It doesnt come with air conditioning or a radio. You can ask for one to be put in but it wont coem with one unless you ask. The a straight rally car. It is extremely fast and i hav enever seen one loss. But i can be proven wrong.

i would agree that the wrx has better looks but the interior of the srt is a lot better than the wrx. the wrx is very cheap inside with doors that you have to slam to shut. i test drove the wrx first and was only impressed with the engine. the srt however is 6 grand less has a much nicer interior and more power.

oh i forgot.. the sales guy who we have worked before said the srt goes 0-60 in 5.2 secs and really has like 240 hp. and btw (this is kinda random) the sales guy has modified '97 eclipse that goes 11.8 sec/qtr mile at 144

I was told the reason they were under rated was because of the chrysler crossfire which is the sports car for rich yuppies has a v6 at 215hp so. A rich yuppie may not buy crossfire if 20 year old punk can pull up in neon and smoke him. But thats exactly what will happen. Plus diamlyer/chrysler did not expect PVO to do so well with the SRT-4 the expectation was 200hp. Instead they almost doubled the hp from previous year neon. I've heard $1500 in upgades netting 300hp/300tq and putting them in high 12's. I like the STI's but I believe when its all said and done the chrysler 2.4L might be the best/strongest 4 banger to mod. My hope is in 2006 they build SRT-4/Evo 8 on same platform like stealth/300ogt. Give SRT-4 drivers an optional awd like the stealth and see how SRT-4 with 2.4 Turbo and STI with 2.5 Turbo do head to head in every catagory. Serious compatition and the car enthusiast will reap the benefits. of course Price will jump to about $30,000-$35,000 but I will have one maybe two.

yeah i think that'd be nice too, but dont get your hopes up. Remember that the whole point of the srt4 was basically to build a 200hp+ sports car and keep the price under 20,000 dollars. But like i said i still agree with you.

Yea, ive been waiting to see what will happen before i buy my srt-4, but knowing my luck..this is what will happen. i buy it..then the next year they just boost it alot..or change toe drive terrian. Either that..or they would quit making it, which i doubt will happen for a long time

Alright, here is the deal. Chrysler lied about the power of the SRT-4, they underrated it to help people with insurance. I don't see why you're so surprised at this. They did the same thing in the 80s and 90s with the early Turbo Dodges. They also did it in the 60s and 70s with the Muscle cars. Now looks, those are subjective, I think the SRT-4 looks better than the WRX and the STi, just a matter of opinion. Now the STi is no featherweight either it is about 100 pounds heavier than the SRT-4. I don't know how many times I have to tell you people that it is NOT just a Neon. The only thing the SRT-4 shares with the Neon is some sheet metal and some interior bits. The SRT-4 is as much a Neon as the WRX and STi are an Impreza. Don't be stupid. Also, the STi is NOT a rally car. It is based on a rally car. I don't think you can comprehend what those are made of and how much they cost. A rally course would eat the STi alive and it would get its ass kicked by the other cars.

i disagree a little dont get me wrong the srt4 is a pretty bad ass car, but as far as the best dodge to build up i dont agree with. the first gen 2.0 is built ten times better add a turbo and the little upgrades srt has to a first gen engine it will blow it away. and u can add all this to the engine and keep it under the price of the srt. i think they should of put a little more time into the engine and a little less time in the turbo. like i said earlier im not dissing srt it is a bad ass car :evillol:

I would disagree heavily. While the 2.0L is a good engine to work with, it is nowhere near as robust as the 2.4L. They had so little time for R&D that they had to just go with some very strong parts rather than find the cheapest parts that will withstand the abuse.
that is why tyhe STi one the WRC this year i guess.....
Like I said, don't be a dumb ass. I would hope that you know that the street version of the STi shares only the body style with the rally version of the STi and that is IT! The STi used in rally racing is completely different than the one used on the street. What, did you think that the Focus that they use in rally racing is the same one they use on the street? LOL, people that own the Focus must not know how to drive.

on super 2ner tv the evo and sti where put on a moderatly challanging rally course and they both did very well. the hosts said install some rally tired and they both can compete in there own hp rating of rallying. ok im not saying this is entirely try, i think the cooling systems in both cars can not handle an entire rally event

1. I was talking about WRC Pro Rally courses and cars, not SCCA.
2. The SRT-4 will still be here. They plan to have an SRT4, 6, 8, and 10. They aren't getting rid of the SRT-4. It might not be the same but it will still be here.
3. The SRT-8 is either going to be called a Charger or Charger Daytona. Those are the two names they are debating on to replace the Intrepid in NASCAR. So, it is only logical for them to name the SRT-8 to match that car.

I hate to bust all of guys but 1 month ago the owner of a local shop (All Speed) dyno'd his sons SRT-4 (only mod was a new radiator because he wrecked it) and it only put out 241 at the wheels ... where did you people get 280 from? As a matter of fact I plan to try and see a few more dyno'd just to put this little myth to rest. Mabey if you wish hard enough it will dyno at 280... or not. But just so you dont send me hate mail the SRT-4 is nowhere near a bad car. I had the pleasure of driving the abosolute sh*t out of one at NOPI last year (BFG Tire challenge) and they are fast ... but I dont remember one thing ... were the front windows roll up or power ... cuz I think I remember them being roll. Well have a good one.

who the heck said that it dyno's 280 at the wheels? besides the first poster which claimed 270 and who is rather misinformed.
and the front windows are power. back were man in 03 but changed to power too in 04
and 240whp its quite good for stock...usually 240 is reserved for stage 1 srt4s

I think what the first guy was trying to say was that a manufacture gives fly whell HP ratings not Dynoed whell HP so if Dyno says 240 at the wheel and manufacture say 215hp('03) and 230hp('04) who is the car making 10+hp in the drive train Impossible so 240hp at the wheels should be between 266hp-282hp at the fly considering the average is 15% drivetran loss and 10% drive train loss on well tunned car. and about 15% on AWD cars so Yes if your bosses sons car dynoed 240+HP stock it is putting out around 280hp at the fly. For example STI says 300+hp and 300+tq that is fly wheel HP. (I have never heard of STI putting that number at the wheel stock) Which equalls about 255+ to the wheels. Have your boss dyno a few STI's to double check the theory From what Ive seen of local dynoes they run between 250-265HP stock. Subaru tuned STI well EVO loses alittle more in drivetrain.
RB25240kouki
01-22-2004, 02:46 AM
I stand corrected ... I even did the math. 14.286% power loss between fly and wheels (240hp compaired to 280hp). But as far as Im concerned the only number that counts is what you put to the ground. And finnaly Ill leave you with this ... thank god they made the SRT-4... because I really hate neons (they look bad and are slow), but the SRT-4 changed that by adding speed and looks and turning a junk car into a performer.

You'd be surprised how many chicks look at this car! Not only will it make some dude that paid 30,000 dollars for his car look like an ass, it will shut down most v-8s on the road. I like to see the face on people when they just lost to a neon.
I took a Stingray to 140mph the first day I had my SRT and had him by atleast 5 cars the whole time.
I have beaten an Evo 8, 2003 mustang GT, and a 350z. The interior isnt that bad actually, I like it better than the EVO interior.

as for the sti vs the srt4. i am very sure that it eould come down to the driver. i can't really drive a stick yet at a racing level. i never owed a car with a stick my next car will be. lets say my next car with a stick is a skyline r34 having about 350whp. i think a stock srt-4 would give me trouble.

A modded SRT would whip the shit out of a 350whp skyline in a straight line. With a little suspension work it would prolly take it in the autox track too.
