97-Blazer AC-problem

The clutch om the AC-compressor do not engage.
Ha anyone some hint or electrical drawing for AC-installation.

I have the same problem on my 96 Blazer. I called a shop and a mechanic told me that if the freon pressure is low, there is a switch that will keep the compressor from kicking on. He said to have it recharged, which I am going to have done tomorrow. If this fixes my problem I will let ya know.

i hope you know that if recharging works, your problem still isnt fixed unless you find and fix the leak.

It happened to me too. I found the accumulator, took out the plug, took a safety pin and cut off the end so it was circular on one end and 2 straights on the other, inserted them ( 2 ends) into the female part of the plug then touch the 2 males inside the connector with the circular end to jump the signal to keep the compressor on. then it took some of a can of r134. THen of course I took the jumper off and reattached the plug. It works well now. Good luck.

you still need to find the leak and have it fixed, then recharge the system with the proper amount of freon. too much or too little can cause damage to the compressor.

actually, Im by no means a mechanic. I bought it from a guy in Vegas who was on the road as a musician and didnt use the ac for several months. Im hoping the seals dried out and it leaked out. Now I run it on a regular basis and its ok so far. Ive tried to put more in and it wont go. is recharging out of a can a real slow process? I watched the frost on the side of the can to watch it fall, it seemed like it stopped so I quit. Not quite one small can. What should I be on the lookout for in terms of damage to the compressor?

Take the switch off of the big silver looking tank and connect the two prongs with a screwdriver. If the compressor kicks in, then it's a low freon problem. Get it charged, pressure tested, and then you're good. I had the same problem a couple weeks ago and almost bought a compressor. The found a small leak near that switch. unless of course the pressure switch is bad and you need a new one. that happened on mine.

I have a 95 blazer, the system is fully charged, no leaks, blows ice cold air sometimes, and sometimes the compressor decides not to kick on. If I leave it on it usually stays on, but if i turn the ac off, and go to turn it back on, then It wont turn on. My problem has to be electrical, can anyone help me with what, or how to trouble shoot the electrical system. Has anyone else had any similiar problems with a relay or switch going bad? What switch or switches, or relay/relays can I jump or check, and where are they located? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since I know the system is charged, can I conclude that the switch on the drier is going bad, or could it possibly be another switch or relay? Thanks ahead of time.

I had the same problem and the mechanic changed the ac relay and it works great now

the switch should be the culprit. i had to replace that very same one on my 95 S-10.

Thanks to all above me in this thread... This helped me out tremendously although I must admit I got scared when the gauge on the refill went to 125 psi and didn't come down... (Gauge was sticky) if you unplug the refil and plug it back in it reset to 25 lbs.. phew
