Alarm System Problem

Help!

I have a '98 Durango which won't start. I replaced my water pump a few days ago and when I went to reconnect the battery, the car wouldn't start. The battery is good and strong, but the security light remains on. It appears that the car thinks its security system has been breached and therefore has disabled the ability to start it.

Can anyone suggest either a fix or a method of completely disabling this feature so I can start the car again?

Thanks,

Nelson Moore

Well, your alarm is very primitive. The only thing I can tell you is to unlock the driver's door using your key in the lock cyl.. That's the only way they disarm other than the keyless entry if you have one.

I have tried to disarm the system by doing just that. I have opened both front doors and the tail gate with the key and also have used the keyless entry button to unlock the doors. Neither of these has been successful.
