Doubts On Rx7's

I was reading along a few people arguing about Rx7's and Supra's. Personally i find some people's reasons on perfering supras over rx7's really uneducated. i have studied automotive engineering and run a company called Rx7 Heaven customizing rx7's and working on them. People talk about the power that supras have over rx7's which in non-modified condition is true....but in the case of our 94' tri rotor twin turbo rx7 with 125 hp zex nitrous, this is completely untrue. unofficaly this car has to have one of the highest rated bhp ratings. w/o the help of any nitrous the dry engine runs 1256 rwhp. Now if u can show or tell me of any supra that can touch our specially tuned baby....we sure would like to hear about it, but like we all believe around here, a fully hooked up rx7 controls the road with a supra in the rear view. also anyone interested in created such a creation or just hooking up ur rx7 a bit, and ur in the twin cities...rx7 heaven knows everything there is to know down to the nuts and bolts

if so whats the weight difference in the aluminum hood and steel hood? and is the weight the reason for the price difference? and which one does a 91 non-turbo come with?

Steel hood weighs about 45 lbs. The aluminum hood (found on convertables and an available option on other non turbo cars as well as standard on the 87-88GTU and the 89-91 GTUs models) weighs in at about 12-15 lbs.

*Most* Turbo RX-7's had the Aluminum ones I have seen a rare few with steel hoods. But they are very rare.

so basically mine is probably 45 lbs... cuz it feels pretty heavy just opening it... so maybe I'll look into a new hood in the futre... do they come painted or what?

A friend of mine with an 86 rx-7 found an aluminum hood from a turbo 2 in a junkyard for pretty cheap. that's always a good way to go, a lot of people don't know how to take care of rotaries, and they die, and they throw them away. no big deal, just means more parts for less for us.

is aluminum lighter than carbon fiber or fiber glass? how hard is it to remove the hood and put a new one on? oh and about how much did the hood cost your friend? I'm getting kinda interested in this now :loser: I'll never not want to drop off 30 pounds by getting a new hood if I find it cheap at a junkyard :iceslolan

fiberglass is lightest but weakest (aka paper mache body kits)
carbon fiber is good all-around stuff
aluminum is for oem and body panels :D

ok so non-turbo had steel hoods and turbo had aluminum... what about the rest of the body panels?

i think he got the turbo II hood for 40 bucks. paint was in good shape too, but he did have a connection with the seller somewhere. i'm sure you can get one for under 100, but that all depends on the seller, how many rxs they have and stuff, so it might be more...

Hey guys, been busy ain't haven't been able to respond to much. As of jan. 6th our 94' tri rotor is no longer. Our shop had been broken into and we were storing there for the time being for an upcomming event. With the gps location security it was recovered on an outskirt suburb of Chicago, with no engine, interior....basically stripped, and just to spit in our faces, it was burnt. No word on any suspects which basically ruined out number 1 project car. I do have pictures of it and having a buddy of mine work out the file so it can work on my mac and shown to all yall :)....no worries though, insurance covered...and this just means we will have to make a meaner machine i would think...oh and to the person looking for a hood, if you have the change to put down, anyday i would suggest a carbon fiber. For the weight and strength, there is no compition. But if u are going for cheaper while still not on a plastic rc car budget, go with aluminum. It will be quite a lot lighter compaired to steel and with custom paint jobs steel seems to be less inter-meshing to paint causing it to discolor on special jobs. Fiberglass, don't do it. Thats all i have to say about that. If you ever want to drive your nice ride, which would only be on a sunny day...after even months the paint on fiberglass fades and even if just stored and trailored to events, the paint WILL spider, screwing you out of the money you had just spent on the hood and possibly in the thousands on paint. So, hopefully that helped, i'll be trying to get these pictures on asap for you rx7 fans and theres only one way to drive, balls to the wall :)......also, rx7 heaven in the twin cities is not the same division as we are. They do basically all the work that needs to be done on rx7s to keep working like a charm and some custom. Mainly we are a custom building shop for all rx7's and now rx8's. By the way, we are looking into building up a rx8 along with the rx7....love to hear some feedback on if anyone else finds this worth while job.
