FR refers to the drivetrain layout (F means front engine, R means rear wheel drive). the 510 was a "cheap" 4-door "family sedan" sold by Datsun in the '70s. it was put out to compete with the very first Toyota Corolla's. it's RWD, and many people are seeing potential in them nowadays and modifying them, some people are even crazy enough to swap an SR20DET into them...
i would love one myself, but older cars require money on hand in case something breaks...money on hand is something i don't currently have.
And rotarys :)
Its not that they require cash, rather its the initial investment is high, which keeps Brian from buying anything over 1g :P
Dont worry Brian, when my grandma dies, or I win the lottery, whichever comes first, I will give all the GDF/Oracle guys(except Mike, cuz he doesnt need any, and Kenny, cuz he doesnt car) 10grand to go nuts.

I drift all my cars, the RX7 is by far the easiest car i have fro drifting, then the supra, then the DSM.
I recently got the DSM and am in the process of modding it. But i have hadd it drifting a few times, what a feeling doing a AWD drift:)

Has anybody ever drifted in something larger than a car, like a SUV for example? I'm curious.
'91 Nissan hardbody with open differential. The leaf springs make it fun.
You don't need an LSD to drift. You don't need coilovers to drift. You don't need a turbo to drift. You don't even need multi link suspension to drift, my truck has leaf springs. You will never be so good that more practice, even without these items, won't help you improve. The only thing holding you back is yourself. Do not put yourself into a position where you're using these modifications as a crutch.
If you don't believe me that's fine, I'm not going to argue about it. If you don't believe a '91 Nissan hardbody with 160k miles, leaf springs, 134 horsepower and an open differential can drift, more power to you.

I never said you cant drift. But you must remember it is rarely better for it to be easy. Yes a solid rear axel is easier because it gives more before the car slides, while 4 wheel indapendant gives more (lets body go over wheels more) But the 4 wheel indapendant will make your drifts have less friction (If you are very good) thus higher speed. Then when you exit the corner you have all this power from the wheels spinning and all of a sudden you basily rocket off.

I drift. I used to race, but got bored. Drifting is cooler. Also, the best driver win. Not the driver with the best car. I like that :)
maybe one of the best things I've ever heard on these forums... may have to add that to my sig :iceslolan
but yea I'm deffinately a beginner, I've only done an acctually drift like twice, but I'veo nly had my RWD car for almost 3 month, and half that time it has been snowy and the last 2 weeks my clutch has been out so no improvement as of lately... the new stage 1 clutch should be much bette though, the only technique I was able to figure out was... I forget what they call it, but the one they say is used for rally cars, where you turn away from the corner then turn sharp back into it... wasn't very impressive the few times I tried... but its a new car so I am still babying it a bit :p

feint drift.
with snow you can take slo-mo practice to try to get all your shiit together.
like high speed when you clutch
select gear(if need be)
pull hand brake
release handbrake and clutch
mash throttle
hit clutch and front brake
select gear,counter steer
ride out.
or switch back.
in the snow(not best place to practice tehnique-but to get used to many hand and foot moves)
it works.
especially if you are bored and it just happends to be winter;)

Yes, that works. But the best way, is to know that you want to drift, and see which way is most comftorble to you. Copying styles is often a bad thing. Sure all drifting techniques are based around some of the same moves. But drifting is something where it is best to teach yourself.

No pics or video for me unfortunately, you'll have to take my word for it..
I do drift a little, though mainly only for a bit of fun at the track. Its just safer, quicker and more efficient to keep things as straght as possible up in the mountains. As yet I don't have an LSD in the skyline, so sliding it is a relatively unpredictable affair, as it snaps back pretty quick when it gets traction, but its ok, it will hang out the tail pretty wide. Where I drive the corners are often blind with a lot of elevation change though, so the quick way is brake hard, turn in, sight the exit, boot it. Maybe get a little sideways if I get on the power closer to the apex, but mostly its not a good idea.
So I don't drift 24/7 hardcore on the street, but I do have a go at it.

Go out on dirt roads too, if you're around any that is.

longest drift? about 3 seconds taking a friend of mine home i decided to punch it, turn the wheel and yank the e-brake around the turn (in broad daylight and in traffic dont try this ever)(thats the last time im ever drifting in traffic)anyways i got sideways and hooked the right turn pretty sweet. For a newbie at drifting im pretty proud of myself.

Why not paint a bullseye on your car while your at it Drifty. One of the drifters in my town did that in the rain and almost sideswiped an Landcruiser (he's not very good and that probably didn't help).
