I just bought an '04 regular WRX it's great except when I start the engine. I have to hold the key for 5-6 seconds before the engine starts. The car is brand new with less than 1500 miles on it, and when we took it to the dealer the dude said, it takes longer to start because "it's a high performance car". I think this is BS. Does anyone know why it takes so long for the engine to start?

Sounds like BS to me...

MY 04 WRX starts and idles "instantly"
But again, I live in Vegas. Perhaps you live in Wisconsin...
and waiting for 5 sec. may not be bad at -3 deg. F. ... dunno...

Guy I know has an 04' and I dont he has ever had problems like that. Take it back to the dealer and say fix it. Its under warranty they have to....They cant just say its because its cold. Thats the most BS I have ever heard. Personally I would call and talk to the owner, there usually around...And tell him what happened and let him deal with that guy, I guarantee he'll be happy to help u next time u come in....if he is still there.

What is it doing? Does it take a few second before it starts cranking, or does itcrank slowly, or does it crank fine but just not start for a few seconds?

Mine will turn over once or twice before it catches... that's maybe 2 seconds... in 20 degree weather. That's bullshit, go get it fixed.
