I have a 1995 Pontic TransAM SR5, LT1, Factory Security, prerry much loaded. All worked well until a couple months ago. The battery went dead. I charged, drove the car, let it sit for a short time and it would not start. Put new battery in the car, the security system started acting up. The battery was dead by the next morning. Could the problem be in the factory security system? Can I discconect the factory security system to find out?
Thanks for any help,
Steve

i think i have had issues with the factory security.couple days ago, i walked out to my car unlocked it(disarmed), got in and when i went to start it, i had all power but there was nothing turning over, i turn the key and nothing.... I was dumbfounded. Well, i clicked the alarm and unlocked it again, and it started perfectly... I dont know if it was related to the alarm or not. Hasnt done it since(knock on wood)...

It's very doubtfull that you have the security to blame unless it is keeping the door lock actuators activated constantly or something. Did you properly clean the battery cables? Did you replace the battery with the correct one? If you bought a cheap battery at a chain store, that could be bad even though it is new. Personally, I'd look at the altinator. Those tend to go bad and draw amperage when the car is off but will seem to charge fine when the car is running.

Hello, can you tell me what you had to do to solve your battery/alarm issue ? I stored had my Firebird for the past 5 months (during the cold Canadian winter) and I just tried to start it up today but experienced similar problems with my battery & factory alarm system. My battery died so I got it started with a boost from AAA(CAA) but the alarm kept going off and deactivating the car from driving (like it was being intentionally stalled by the alarm system). I am planning to buy a new battery tomorrow but I am not sure if the alarm/engine cut-off problem will continue. Any suggestions or advice ?
