1991 CRX Si vs 2003 Civic Si

Hey everybody, I am just curious on this. This new guy at my work has a 2003 Civic Si with the new i-vtech motor. He was talking about racing next weekend. Let me know who you think would win, here are the car stats.

2003 Civic Si, 5 Speed
All Stock, No Mods, i-Vtech

1991 CRX Si, 5 Speed
D16A6
K&N Filter
Shortram-Intake
ZC Rebuilt Header
DC Sports Exhaust Head
Hollowed out Cat. Converter
GReddy Midpipe/Muffler
NGK Spark Plugs/Wires
91 Prelude Si Fuel Injectors
Next Level Performance Chip

I know it looks like my CRX would win, but I know that the new Civic Si's are pretty damn fast stock. I don't know exactly but I'm estimating that he has about 200 HP. I estimate I have about 150 HP. Well post what you think about the race and would it make a difference to use any of that octane boost shit. I know theres only a few good ones. Thanks, Jim.

ummm you have some shit messed up up there and you by no means have anywhere near 150hp with those mods listed. I think if he can drive you will get your ass handed back to you.

Race is set tonite at 2:00 AM EST. Just for those who live in PA, were racing from Route 22 in Easton to the Airport Rd. South Exit in Allentown. $200 on the line. There'll hardly be any cars if any on the highway tonite.

Yeah im gonna have to say if they guy even halfway knows how to drive he should beat you...and the '03 Civic Si has 160hp, its the RSX Type-S that has 200hp.

so its a rebuilt sohc vtec head so you have a mini me swap so thats a little bit more power I would still say the race will be decided by the driver. The new si is not that quick o to 60 or in the 1/4 mile and a few stock rexes have gone high 15s so a moded one may hold its own. Good luck.................

I know that someone will think that this is Bull Shit but it is true.

I had a 1987 CRX SI With an Integra ECU Custom Intake(Getto Black PVC Pipeing) Custom short throw(again getto) MSD Ignition, accell Coil and My wife had a 2002 Eclipse Gt.(although Auto with tap shift) and we raced a couple of times and I could run side by side or a half a car lenght ahead (depending on the street)

But I keept damm good care of that car and I dont know if I just had one of thoes on in a million cars that run great but it was fast and it had 187,000 miles on it. When I went to a CRX meet I was beating 91 SI's with minimal mods.

The thing is CRX's are very light weight and quick. But they only have a 1.5-1.6L and that 2.0 I-VTEC has a lot more HP and TQ but it is also a lot heavier so I would say that depending on how far you are going to race 1/4, 1/2 or freeway You should have him on the shorter but if you try and get on the freeway you are going to get spanked.

Go get and Integra ECU and a MSD Ignition those are the best mods that I can recomend. and I would say that you have a much better chance.

Those were my best mods that I did to my car.

I dont think ..that the crx would win..one of mine friends has a 90 crx si with Cold air intake...can't even beat the 90 honda accord ex so which I believe that the crx wouldn't ..correct me if i am wrong!!

Well first off Jimcrx you need to learn what you are talking about before you start talking shit to people. If you have all that done then I think you have a good chance at beating the new si, esp. with the mini me. Also, accord ex's are not that fast. I used to have a 90 2 door ex 5sp with a 96 prelude motor(the sohc one) with a dc intake, custom catback with the complete unorthodox pulley set. I sold it to my boy and got a 89 crx si(which hardley has any mods yet) and I smoke him. It was probably because he isn't the best driver, but they are not that fast.

We were side by side doing about 125 and i slowly inched my ass infront of him. I'd say by only about 1-1 1/2 car lengths. I like how the shifter is on the dash in those new civics....oh yeah I do smoke a lot pot.

Oh really?? according to what i heard is that the Crx si runs between 15-16 secs 1/4 miles...so CRx si is fast huh?

Oh, and if you decide to go again, Let me know. Going B16 in my 91' soon. Sooner the better, as I would like to start driving it to work, instead of the Blazer.

Another nice spot on 22 is right between Burgettstown (Post Gazette Pavilion) and Calliers Way (First exit in WV)

you know im not really one to know alot about cars ... but the one thing i know for sure is that the ECU on our cars cuts off at about 122 and then lets you run down to about 118, if i remember right. now unless someone can correct me im calling bullshit on this. none of the mods you listed did anything to remove this limiter so yea ... and dont try to say its your next level performance chip cause i checked that out and all it does is modify your fuel signal ... nothing to do with the limiter at all. so yea ... please someone educate me otherwise.

The ECU cuts out at 122?! Then I guess I have different one cause I had the needle a tad over 125, probably tops 127 i'd say. The stretch of highway we raced on was like 20 miles maybe more. From Easton, PA - Allentown, PA. Maybe VK can correct me on that but I dunno. Do the new civics have fuel cut off? Cause he said his was cutting off around 120 - 125. Unless that was his excuse for loosing. :p

in my crx i had my needle pinned at the bottom of the speedo, last tick mark is at 130mph, and it was past that, this was on my completly stock D15 at the time.

USDM ecu's have no speed limiter. JDM ECU's cut off at 115.

Whats with everyone calling BS? The CRX is a good 600 pounds lighter than the Civic, and with those mods he wouldn't have too big of a horsepower disadvantage.

Sad news guys. Today I was changing my oil and I noticed that my over-fill tank was empty and full of black stuff that is probably oil I'd guess. I had this happen to me earlier cause when I first got the car it overheated. Well I parked at my work and then when I was leaving, I cranked it and it make some strange noise and the exhaust was really rattly and it was smoking pure thick white and when I'd give it gas it smoked really bad. It bearly accelerated. There isn't any knocking noise so I think it probably was a weak head gasket waiting to go. I need to know if anyone can give me some info and doing the timing. I know how to get the head off but I'm lost when it comes to adjusting the timing again. I dont really wanna fuk things up any worse than they are.

actually its best if you just re-do the timing.First you take off the timing cover. (good luck) I choped mine off.Then you take the belt off.Then you take off you plug wire off number one cylinder aswell as the plug.Thats the last one on the driver side.stick something that is metal that can go into the cylinder make sure its long enough so it doesnt fall in.Then you get a socket rench and put it on the crank and turn it counter clock-wise then look at the metal object that you stuck in the num one cyl and notice its going up and down.make sure that its at top dead center(TDC) then you look at the cam gear and turn that one till the part that says up is at the top.Then you take the distr cap off and look at the roter the little metal tip should be pointing at the num one cyl wire it should be the botom left and if that is not pointing at the num one then you know that your 180 degrees off.then you go back to turning the crank once more till the roter is where it needs to be.Make sure you watch that metal object and be possitive that its at tdc.its got to be pin point on the balls if not than that shit aint gonna run right.then put the belt on and make sure its as tight as shit.Good luck it will take an hour if your lucky with that timing cove it raps around tha crank pulley.

With those mods I still don't think he was close to the hp of the Si...however power to weight was probably a lot better.
