I don't have a lude, but I redline in 1st about once a day, in 2nd gear about every 2 or 3 days. :)

I redline maybe 2 time a week. What RPM do you guys usually shift when just driving normal? I think Honda's recommendation is 3,500 RPM for my car but I usually take it about 4,000 to 4,500 RPM.

same here! I'm addicted to vtec... i love hearing the changeover. i dont neccesarily redline it. but i get it up into the higher rpms. but if i have someone else in the car i try to keep it under control. driving like that is fun but its not very comfortable if your heads getting snapped back every few minutes :D

all depends. on the mood. i have a feeling that if i had vtec i would be pushing it even more than i do.

I only redline when i race, or when i need the speed to pass someone or get on a road. I shift around 3500 - 4500 rpm on the regular.

I hit vtec at least once a day but i don't always redline. On a few occasions i have pinned the needle past the redline by accident(like the shifter banging into neutral and me flooring :+( car still ran good doing 8,000 rpms anyway. Other than that i just get it upto 6,000 or 7,000 when the mood strikes. Doesn't everyone just get that great feeling when vtec kicks in.

RED LINING IS FOR BAD DRIVERS THATS WHY YOU GUYS BUY MONSTER TACOS WITH SHIFT LIGHTS, YOU KNOW TO CHANGE THE GEAR AT THE GREATEST POWER POINT. I WOULD NOT BUY A CAR FROM YOU AND BY THE WAY WHILE YOUR CRUNCHING GEARS AND BLOWING SMOKE AND BOLTS OUT YOUR EXHAUTS IM 400M DOWN THE ROAD :flipa:

If you don't shift the prelude at redline when you up shift the revs will drop below the vtec change over. Besides the H22a make power well past the redline. These aren't chevys or fords here they are meant to be run hard.

Please take off the Caps Lock key - It's quite annoying.
Second, you're wrong about shifting at the greatest power point - you actually want the maximum power to be close to the the middle of each gear. The idea is to get the greatest average power in each gear. If you shift right at the peak hp point, you'll come way down off the power curve. In our small displacement, high RPM motors, peak hp is fairly close to the redline, and so the redline is the closest we can safely get to the ideal shift point.
Third, I somewhat agree that a monster tach is overkill for a street car, but show me any professional racer without a large tach, much less a shift light, and I'll show you someone who blows motors and doesn't win much.
Fourth, we don't kin much to rude people around here. If you have something constructive to say, then please by all means share it; but don't be insulting.

Peak power is around 6700rpm on average and redlining is falling way of the power curve, its actually about 600rpm to far as you start falling the wrong way. It would me more use changing at around 7000rpm to maintain high power from this gear and keeping it up in the next. Why flog your car when its not needed, maybe everyone needs some dyno time.
You also would not worry about falling of the vtec point if you had a vtec controller which brought the point back to where it is supposed to be.
On my Chargedlude its now at 4400 rpm.

you can move the rev limiter and the vetc will rev smoothly to over 10,000 rpm :sun: the factory redline was initally put at 8500 to comply with jap regs. I rev to bout 9500 every day and my lude begs for more

Uhhh... First off, the H22A redline is at 7400 RPM and the factory rev-limiter kicks in around 8k. I'm really quite surprised that the stock head would flow enough air to give you any significant power up at 10k, and I'd also be surprised if the stock valve springs are stiff enough to keep away from valve float at that speed. Have you had some excessive head work done? If not, you're going to bend a valve soon if you haven't already.
Also, since the reciprocating mass stress goes roughly as the square of the RPM, your getting about 65% more stress at 9500 than at the factory 7400. My guess is that you'll see a rod bolt failure pretty soon from the repetitive stress.
Also, how did you remove the stock rev-limiter? Are you using an aftermarket ECU?

Yo Fritz
Dead right My mistake of course the redline is at 7400 RPM .
And with regard to Flow - Check out what the old one has to say about it.
All you need

And if ya dont already kno it - chek
http://www.hondata.com/
http://www.hondata.com/stage3.html
Stage 3 modifications
Speed limiter removed.
Adjustable rev limiter.
VTEC controller
Shift light
Launch control
Full throttle shift
Well Cool
Mek ;)

So you have an Endyn or similar port job? What about the valve springs & cam? What about the rods? Which ECU did you use for the Hondata Stage 3 mod?
Please tell us about your mods - don't say you spin to 10k and then leave us hanging...

I generally change at 5000rpm. Enough to get most power out of the 1st set of lobes, but not enough to have the 2nd set kick in (and the extra noise that follows), and then have my wife yell at me for driving too fast ;)
The thing I love the most is to drive normally (ie. not WOT), don't change gear and let the rpm rise over the 5500ish VTEC cutover, then floor it and feel the car jump to attention :) Loverly Stuff!

Don't usually red line. On the rare ocassion, it will be when I'm racing someone. I have a Vtec controller, and set it to remind me at 6000 rpms, so I usually change at 7000 if I'm giving it a bit. Otherwise I normally change about 4500 rpms.
