suburban 1998 keyless programming

I read the programming procedure for a 1999 suburban.I could not get it to work on my 1998. Is the procedure for programming the keyless remote the same for a 1998 suburban.

On the 97 all you do is hold down the lock and unlock buttons simultaneosly for about 6-7 seconds. The locks will go up-down or down-up depending on their starting position. The transmitter should work properly after that.

Im getting a new set programmed tomorrow at the dealer (free) i'll pay close attention to see how they do it.
