Well I have been working with Gsteg on the box dimension etc, and I finally decided 3.2 cubic feet per his suggestion tuned to 28hz. What amp would you guys use on this subwoofer with this size ported box?

I tend to go overboard ..... probably something like a JBL 600.1. And DO remember to put a subsonic filter on it, since the speaker will see frequencies below the tuning frquency (or maybe a little lower) as basically unloaded - like it has no box. That will destroy your speaker quickly if you like to play it loud.

Yeah, I am definately getting a sub filter, I don't like JBL, I was thinking tsunami 1100d.

I was just using that amp as an example ...... I can show you differences in amp performance with test equipment, but I sincerely doubt anyone can HEAR the difference. So the most important thing to me is reliability.

yes..infrasonic is a good thing

the Tsunami is probably the best bang for the buck now. Cheaper than JBL 1200.1 and puts out the same amount of power at full tilt. loaded with features and reliability is better. can't go wrong with that. :D

avionixx isn't bad either although it is probly more expensive for the power.

3.2 is huge for that sub, I would stay closer to 2 or maybe 2.5 at the max. You should run about 1000rms to it to get the most out of it, and the Tsunami db1100 is no longer sold so you can't get it unless it's used. I would get the Hifonics Brutus 1000d personally.

The db1100 is available through avionixx. Now, why the differing opinions on sub size between you and Gsteg? Many people thought it would pound well in a 3.2 on the ed forum.

I just think that's a little big, especially on so much power. Maybe if you were running 600rms to it that would be fine, but not on 1100+ rms.

And the db1100 is not available through avionixx or anywhere, they haven't taken it off their site yet but it sold out months ago and will never be produced again.

Ok, I was wondering how much power to put to it, 600 sounds good. thanks. I didn't want 1100 watts.

Any ideas on a 600 watt amp, No JBL please

yep, there is a trade-off between box size and required amp power. Most companies are making subs designed for small boxes so you actually fit them in your car, and power is relatively cheap. Larger boxes are usually tuned lower too.
