What do the stars mean?

I looked through the FAQ's, but I don't see anything regarding what stars mean under your user name. I have a bunch of them under mine, and I noticed other people (at least the posts I've read) don't. What do they mean?

Also, maybe I'm just over looking it, but where would I find information on the way the forums work in general? For example, I'm a newbie. How many posts before that status changes, and what's the next level? Oldbie? :rolleyes:

This is the way it is set up as of august of this year, there may be a thread on it somewhere but at this time there is no page where this is cleary defined.

Lastly AF server donors have all purple stars regardless of post count and moderators have all yellow stars regardless of post count as well as a custom user title if they so desire.

what about the moderators and the ones with purple stars...how come theirs are filled up? just curious too. and whats with the ones with the purple stars? why purple?
