epc light

i have a 02 volkswagen jetta gls, just lastnight my epc light went on then my gears locked..... has this ever happend to anyone??? i've never really had any problems with my car performance wise except for my brake lights blowing out like every month... but 2 dollars is not too bad... anyhow i checked the fuse and realized i had blown a fuse for my break lights, so i changed the fuse and it works... so now im wondering, could it be because of my breaklights blow so often that my censor finanlly triggered my gears to automatically lock?? im a girl so i dont know much about cars, can some please help... can i trust my car now that this happend.... believe me im not afraid to sell this car.... thanks :rolleyes:
