Check tire press light

This issue is about a 1999 Pontiac grand am.

Last night on my way to the store the (Check tire press) light came on. I checked all four tires, the two back tires were at 36 lbs psi. the front driver side was at 31 lbs psi and the front passenger was at 45 lbs psi.
I put all four at 36 lbs. and I followed the directions in my Grand am guide book. (Turn key to the on position and push the reset button (inside the fuse panel box) until I see the change oil light start to blink then push the reset button again until I hear a chime...all is good, but the check tire press light does not want to go out. Could it be a blown fuse or maybe a sensor for the tire press went bad? If there even is a sensor or fuse for that.


A guy at the BP station put air in my tires. I can't believe he put 45 lbs of pressure in my Wanli water tread low profiles.

according to what you wrote you may have missed a step, first you turn the key to the on posistion, remove the side panel to your left to find the reset button. Press the button once to make the change oil light blink... then press it once more to move the blinking over to the Check Tire pressure, then press and hold the button untill you hear a chime. Try to do it again per these instructions before you reply! lol I know you probably tried it more then once, but give it another shot make sure the tire presure light is blinking before you press and hold the reset button. If it still doesnt work, one of your tire sensors could be bad, or dirty. not sure where they are located or how much it costs to fix, i havent had any go bad on any of the cars i've worked on. hope this helps

I have tried it several more times. It has to be the one of the sensors.

I did have the key to the on position and I did have the left side fuse panel door off and I pressed the red reset button to make the (change oil) light start blinking. Then I held in the reset button until I heard the chiming. The (CHECK TIRE PRESS) light is still on.

My owners manual says nothing about the check tire press light blinking while doing this procedure. It does say the change oil light should be blinking. :banghead:

Nevermind I got it working!!

Press reset until "change oil" flashes press again until "check tire press" flashes then hold in reset button until a chiming sound occurs. :screwy:

thanks for the help everyone. i'm selling a grand am gt tomorrow and couldn't get rid of the !#X&%% light! I have a 99 GT and had to do the following; key out of the ignition.hold reset button in (it is under the fuse panel door, drivers side, between door and dashboard) turn key to ON while continuing to hold reset button until CHANGE OIL light flashes. Let go of reset button momentarily then hold in again until you hear the chimes, then let go. it should go away.
My light came on 20 miles after pep boys rotated my tires. pressures were all within 2 psi but tires wear worn more on front than back. glad to be selling this car. too many gadgets for its own good

I have a 2000 Grand Am GT and the tire press light has never came on and ive had 10 psi in a tire before.
