ka24de or sr20de

From the KA24DE or the SR20DE which motor would you prefer for a NA engine I'd think the KA from the longer stroke for torque. I'd still mod it but there are more parts for the SR available. Trying to get a feel for what motor to put into my car.

uhhh, KA hands down. I'm assuming you're from the states and a RWD SR20DE was never offered over here so I don't get how you think the SR would have more available parts. If you're gonna go SR, get the turbocharged one.

SR is a piece of fuckin shit without a turbo....
the KA will give MAD POWER when done right as a N/A
i give MAD PROPS for people who work on NA KA's

hey,, thought id put in my 2 cents worth. first off i can understand why the ka24de seems to be a good choice over the sr20de. second, your right when you say that there are more performance parts for the sar20de. although No rwd SR20's made it to american shores doesnt mean theres not loads of tuner parts available for this engine. japan has been tuning this engine sinse 1989,, believe me when i say there is an infinite amount of aftermarket parts for sr20's compared to ka24's. now which engine do you want? if you look at all the facts its obvious that you should go with the sr20de, its a much better engine than the ka24de, its lighter, easily tuned, smaller, and revs higher and faster than any iron block 2.4L. i personally chose the sr20de over the ka24de for my silvia after talking to alot of datsun owners that swap these engines into theire cars. bottom line: the SR20DE is a perfectly refined RACE engine,,, the KA24DE is a PICKUP TRUCK engine...email me with any questions, [email protected]

sorry you have to drive your slow KA powered 240,, i mean its a good engine,,, for a pickup, or even some xterras.. if you plan on hauling stuff. truth is SR's are way lighter, much quiocker and 100 times more refined than your beater engine.. get with the times. you can keep your KA, thats fine, it allows kids like me to smoke your ass at the light. have fun

You have four posts. OK
1) Do you even know what the SR weighs in comparison to the KA?
2) Do you know how much power the SR makes in NA form?
3) Do you know what makes a car move? No its not horsepower. Its the other one.
4) Do you know how to follow rules? If you can't do it here, then good luck building a car or driving it.
5) Did you know that the viper has a TRUCK ENGINE? An engine is an engine no matter what it is in.
6) Get with the times? Do you know how old the SR is? Probably older than you.
7) Read the first few threads at the top douchebag.

why email yopu with questions when its obvious you dont know shit?
the ka24 in pickups are made in mexico while the ka24 built for the 240sx is made in japan. both have different internals and are manufactured in different ways.
but i bet you knew that huh?
you suck at life

oh damn,, you got me.. i didnt see it coming, i mean, you have 569 posts,, i only have 4.. that must make you right,, im sorry *cough* jackass.
first off the sr20de weight approximately 80-90 lbs less than the ka24de, due to its all alluminum construction. (dont get it confused with the DET, which is only 20 lbs lighter than the KA)
Second, the SR makes 160hp @7500 rpm.. oh damn, i dont know if your tach goes that high.. try to visualize
and surprise, the sr20de makes the same amount of torque as the KA.. depending on if you have the 91-93 ka24de, which makes roughly 5lb/ft more torque than the later ones (due to different cams that were replaced to meet emmissions standards)
also, do you even build cars,, i mean do you have time inbetween posts... iv built (and raced) 2 240sx (one with ca18det, one with sr20det) and am currently building a twin turbo Z and my daily driver is an SR20DE 240sx.
next answer,, i dont give a shit if a viper runs on cold fusion.
and so you know the SR series engine hit the market in 1989 model cars, it was in the slivia j's and q's, while the k's had the ca18det. the SR20 was later refined into a VVT engine and currently SR20DE's reside only in S15 silvia varietta's.
one of the bast selling points of sr20de's is its much shorter than the ka24de, and sits closer to the firewall, what this results in is close to 50/50 weight distribution..
do your goddam homework

why cant we all just get along we all love our 240's silvias and sil eighties so lets agree one thing at least we dont drive hondas and we have out choice between the ka and sr which are both good engines i wouldnt even want to see what what happen if we got some of u in a room together talking about this shit
Chuki_breath

yea you got a point lol, iv noticed this too.....it seams like there are two different cultures of 240 lovers now.....all in all both engines have great potential and could out run each other any given day so......we all have the same interests here right??? which would be a, u guessed it, 240sx!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I take it back, the KA24DE makes 155hp at 5,600 and 160 lbs of torque at 4,400. The SR20DE, on the other hand, makes 140hp at a high 6,400rpm and only 132lbs of torque at 4,800. So in NA stock form, the KA is more powerful.

we all drive real cars
not hondas
it really doesnt matter if you have a SR CA or KA.. i do get jealouse of those kids with RB's tho.

please do realize that your numbers are right,, but only for first gen SR20's,, in 1993 they changed to 160hp, 155 lb/ft of torque, then they changed again in the mid 90's to the VVT model which puts out even more, that mofdel is the same used in current day s15's
you also have to realize the benefit of the weight distributionand the hp/L stats. also its cheaper to buy an sr20de and then replace the parts that are different from the sr20det,, thats what tomei does. also you have to ignore the specs of the all too common FWD sr20de's

Here is a list of the enignes. I have heard crazy reports of some badass SR20DEs in race trim. I am just a firm believer that an engine is an air pump and the more air you get in and out, the more power you make.
i wonder what they could of made the ka do
I honestly think this engine could have been a hell of a lot cheaper and stronger than the RB20 if they would have turboed it factory. It definately could have been at least the bottom of the line skyline engine. Only bad thing is the 2 less main bearings.

hey, thought id let you know the conversions on that table are off,, only the s13 sr20de and s13 sr20det. they accidentally multiplied the power in KW by .7457 which is the conversion for HP to KW.,, they should have multiplied it by 1.341, which is the conversion for KW to HP.. sorry, thought id point that out, ima physics major, the rest is right tho..

if your going N/A i would leave the KA cheaper/easier than a swap
rebuild it if its too old
i findit weird that ppl are bitching back and forth over a 8 month year old thread that the creator probly doesnt even visit anymore

the truth is some engines are better than others depending on what you want to use the car for. i mean, motorex just swapped out their vq30de (awsome engine) 350z, and installed an sr20det.. whys this, its better for drift. its the most popular engine for drift because of its placement in the engine bay. and also it doesnt much matter than this thread is 8 months old, forums are where alot of people go to get technical information and opinion,, theres ass-loads of each here. besides, we do all get along...we all have a common thread that allows us to bitch over our uncommon threads.,, thats why its a forum
