Timing a Small Block Chevy

Ok I am going to admit I was a dumb ass last summer. It seemed like the timing on my 66 Chevelle was off, so I was adjusting it, and some dude told me to get it to TDC and adjust the distributor (like take it out) needless to say I am a dumb ass and used to little 4 bangers cause I drive hondas and such for daily drivers, and I kinda screwed up the timing and now it won't start at all. I am looking to get it back on the road this summer so my friend who has his little whiterice POS integra will know that my chevelle can kick his little cars ass for sure. So need help! Whats the best way to time small blocks?

Dude you are a dumb ass. And dont even think you will beat your friends integra. He probably has a Jap tranny that will leave your jaw dropped and seat wet. And on top of that he will still get better gas mileage.

First of put number one piston on top dead center of the compression stroke. Do this by taking out the spark plug and feeling for air to come out of the spark plug hole.(Have a friend turn the car over by hand and make sure the car won't start accidently.) Then replace the spark plug and wire. when you replace the distribitor make sure that the rotor is pointing at the number one sparkplug wire on the cap. After making sure that everything is lined up, dropp it in. After that just set your timing with a timing light and you should be good to go.

hey thanks man! Someone else told me the same thing I just wanted two diff opinions cause I am not familiar with timing motors. Also we have a timing gun (my dad and I) so I will use that. Also I am looking to find some wheels with a differnt offset than the ones that are on there now. They stick out too far and my innerfender wells rub on the tires. I had like 3 people in the back and two in the front and my tire driver side tire had a big groove in it. It sucked! Does Americian Racing make a good rim that will fit? I have like 3 inches or so to play with on the back near my pumpkin. We already swaped out the rear end cause the rear end was too wide. Just wondering, but thanks man for the advice

Many wheel manufactures will hook you up. Just tell them what you want and they will tell you if it is possible.

P.S. Buy a Grandnational run 11's all day then turnaround and get 25 MPG puls full coverage insurance is real cheap

I would not want to drive the chevelle in the winter anyway, for one it would get dirty and rock chips in my fresh paint, plus its my baby, it stays in the garage in the winter.

Did I hear someone actually say that an integra would beat his chevelle? Do you own a chevelle? Have you ever even drove a chevelle?......Have you ever drove a V-8? what kind of reefer are you smokin? CHEVELLES ROCK!!!! when you get it in time and it's running alright just let me know I'll be right behind you and we'll both show just how bad a chevelle can be. Go for it man you won't have any trouble!!!

I know, that was my friend just being a dork, cause I smoked his little rice burner! and he knows my chevelle is phater and faster than his little jap car. My 88 Integra that is my everday driver smokes his rice burner 91 teg that is all riced out! And my 88 is stock. But my chevelle is my baby, I am also going to hopefully get a big block for my 67 this summer and start working on it. But I will for sure get my 66 going, then my dad can get his sending unit back in his 57 Chevy Pickup, and maybe get the 40 ford running, then we can go to car shows for sure! it will be tight! But yeah you can be right behind me! What year is your Chevelle?

Buick GS are nice, but heck with that I would take a 69 rs/ss camaro or a 70 chevelle ss ls6 anyday! But GS and Chevelle are the same pretty much, the body style is pretty much the only diff. besides buick makes wierd motor sizes, but same diff they are all made by GM
