Weathered Cars

I was just curious, as to why everyone always makes there cars look like they just came off the showroom floor. Don't get me wrong, I understand that the cars look the best that way, but why not make cars that look like they have really been driven.... paint faded...., paint chipped.... glass dirty with windshield wiper marks.... bug splatter..., tires that aren't black but brown.... get the picture?? I was just curious... sittin here with to much time on my hands thinkin up stuff....

I find these very iteresting, and believe it or not they are as much if not more work than a fully detailed "new " car. I have seen soem great dioramas with weathered cars as well.
You can find rustall and other weathering supplies at Micromark, another good source are train stores.

now thats a good example.... That to me looks sweet. better than it shiny new. cause it fits more with the theme of the car being old.

hmmmm , gets one thinking! I would like to see an Integra or something done up as if it was an old drift racing car that was retired and then street driven hard for a few years, a few dents , lots of wear, maybe some rust, remnants of sponsor decals :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol:

see, thats the idea..... got me thinking looking at my car, seeing it covered in road salt, old snow, grime everywhere.... my windshield is almost white except where the blades went through

A weathered model is more work because it should be built clean first, then weathered, but the weathering job should be planned from the beginning, since you have to dirty up some places that you cant get to when completely assembled. I prefer subtile weathering, which looks realistic to me.

someone here (i cant remember, sorry) build a beautiful diorama of a Ford Focus WRC at what it does best :>

I'm thinking about doing a diorama in the distant future, but have no idea how i'd make it all look dirty etc :P
