well, since everyone else is showing off their newly purchased vehicles, i thought i may as well too. i already posted this in the 240SX forum, but i know all of you don't frequent that particular forum, so i thought i'd post it here as well.

so there she is guys. for $1000, i think i got a pretty damn good deal.
only problem so far happened pretty quick. on the way home from buying her, my clutch gave out on me and the car wouldn't move. i had to spend $75 extra to tow it home. turns out it's not the clutch that gave out, nor the clutch cylinder (both are brand new) but we're suspecting that the lines might be leaking fluid. we bled most of the system, and there was indeed some air in it, but unfortunatley the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder snapped off, so we're going to buy a new one and figure out a way to pull the old one out.
there also seems to be a slight fuel leak from the tank. it's looking like it'll need to be replaced, unless it's just a leak from one of the hoses leading up to the tank...but i need to get the car moving first, and get it to my friends shop so i can get it up on the hoist and see for sure.
also on the agenda for the X-Mas break are:
-buy new driver's side window motor and install (original is burnt out. window is being held up by a rubber door stop jammed in between the window and door)
-spray paint wheels flat black.
-strip everything behind front seats. check for rust spots, and spray entire floor with rubberized paint.
-find a head-unit of some sort and install.
-buy new fuse so that the left headlight will go down (it goes up, but not down)
-installation of sleepy-eye switch
already done:
-removal of y-pipe
-cutting of air-box
i'll keep you guys updated! :lol2:

Looks similar to the one I'm currently thinking of buying, except it already has an SR20DET in it and costs a pretty penny more...

Yummy! Gotta love the (Insert 3 digit number here)SX liftbacks, certainly a lot better looking than the mudane (If fast) Silvia Coupe variant..........I'm guessing that lovely truck engine won't be in there too long- replaced by an SR20DET when insurance will allow (I crave an NZ-New* 200SX liftback but will no way get insurance) but nice purchase- now fix the damn thing :D
* I say NZ new because I refuse to touch anything that comes second hand from Japan, unless it's a damned good car (And I'm talking GTR, Supra TT, BMW etc........)

thanks guys! yeah it really was a steal.
me and my friend are thinking of going halfsies on a parts car 240SX that a guy we know from the local club is selling for $600. it has all the parts i need (clutch bits, gas tank).
i just need to get the car moving (doing the repairs on jack-stands in my dimunitive garage), and then take it to my friend's shop to use the hoist and see what's wrong with the damn gas tank. it's either leaking out of the side seams where the top half of the tank joins with the bottom, or leaking out of one of the gas lines leading up to the tank. so it could either be a new tank or simply a new line...
and for $1000, i had to expect SOME repairs were in line. but even with all the repairs it needs, it was a friggin' steal, especially considering all the rare OEM parts that it came with, and also the fact that the interior still looks brand new.
SR20DET will definitley come once money allows it. but, as some of you know, my addage has always been: why have power when your suspension can't handle it? so my first modification will be coil-overs from Tein or JIC, and then brakes, and then other various suspension stiffening pieces to make sure the car is stiff as a brick going sideways through the corners. once the car is such, THEN comes the engine swap.
i'll keep you updated, guys! i want to drive her so badly...she's sitting there in my driveway calling my name...but she'll be moving before the new year i reckon.

OMG! No mouse belts! That's so sweet.
I just saw one in the same color when I took my lunch break.
I'd freak if I had to deal with that much rust. Hopefully you've got some quality sandpaper time planned. And ditch that crappy OEM spoiler; blah.
IMO, sleepy-eyes look broken. Keep it closed when closed or open when open.
All-in-all, great looking car. Hope you keep this one for a while! ;)

i'm personally a fan of the sleepy eyes. dunno why, but it makes the car look sexy IMO. *shrugs*
OEM spoiler will stay on for now. the hatch it's on is totalled with rust (underneath is eaten away. it's not too visible on the exterior thankfully), so i'm simply going to get a new hatch from a parts car when i have the money.
removal of y-pipe is not a bad thing at all. in fact that little pipe restricts the air-flow to your airbox because of the dimunitive piping diameter. i am dremeling out a small area in the box BEFORE the filter, and making a new lead-up pipe out of larger diameter tubing that will go straight into the airbox for better air-flow.
i have (as of tonight) lined up a new gas tank for $45 from a guy with a parts car. i'm still not 100% as to whether it's the tank or the piping that needs replacing, so he said he'd hold onto it for me until i could find out.

They're supposed to be like that. There's a manual switch under the bonnet to raise and lower the lights. The look Brian has is called the sleepy eyed look. Some don't like it, but Brian (and myself) finds it uber-sexy.

and as for the motor there are ways to get decent power out of the ca18 block. there are a few ca18 180sx's around these parts that will eat alot of sr20's for brekfast. Y just gotta do your homework to sus out what to do.
Suislide
12-24-2003, 01:22 PM
true Simon. there are endless possibilities for engine swaps, and the CA18 is sadly one that gets often over-looked. it's a very capable engine, but i have been an SR20 freak since the day i learned about them. i also know the most about them out of any Nissan engine, and even though some people will tell you that doing the SR swap is simply trend-following nowadays (with the number of people who now have it over here), i couldn't care less. i'm modifying my car the way i want, because i want to. i'm not following any trends. i've been around this car since before it was trendy, but simply didn't have the money to buy one until now. if that makes me a trend-follower, then so be it. i'll still be happy and that's all that matters. :)

No offense I think they guy who made a G of that got a good deal not you.
that's where you're wrong.
my friend bought a 240SX last month. it's exactly the same car as mine, with all the same options. he has slightly less rust, and his gas tank doesn't leak. his car is black. he does not have the OEM floor mats, and his interior is in worse shape then mine, and his car only has 25k km less then mine.
yet he paid $2500 CDN for his.
usually, the 240SX's you see go for $1000 are parts cars that don't even start anymore let alone run, or they're too badly damaged to repair. $1000 for a RUNNING (besides the clutch cylinder, which is an easy fix) 240SX with the OEM lip (people have already offered me $300 for it), OEM floor-mats, pristine interior, all power options and less then 200,000km is a DAMN good deal, even if it does need a few small repairs.
if you found a comparable 240SX on autotrader.ca, with all the same options, same km-age, but without the rust, you would be looking at spending $3000+, easily. the repairs i need to make (gas-tank, clutch system) are all cheap, under $100 each easily. repairing the rust will not prove too costly either, especially if i get my body-shop friend to do it for me. so i estimate that once the car is road-worthy, i'll end up saving at least $500, if not $1000.
