My sister got a Grand Am Gt a while back and i drove it once and seem pretty quick but I was wondering which car is faster, mine or hers. I have a 2003 Impala Ls and hers is a 2004 Grand Am Gt both stock. I have the power advantage by 30hp and torque(she doesn't have the ram air hood) but hers weighs 300lbs less and has a final drive ratio of 3.29 compared to my 3.05.
So who would win in a quarter mile race and 0-60mph times and all that good racing stuff.

I raced a LS just recently. Not by real far , few car lengths at 100mph , bigger difference in the 0-60 mph , I was ahead by quite a bit but my grand ams limiters prevent me from having any high end power so he caught up. Now it wouldnt be considered a race since my car is modified.

My Grand am is a 2000 SE by the way before they changed the torque from 200 to 195 on the SE's.I dont get why they did that on the newer ones.

Should be a real close race the hp difference should be evened out by the 300 pound weight difference.

The 3.4 in the impala was same hp specs as the 3.4 in grand ams? Or was it 185 hp truck version of 3.4 used in azteks montana and rondevous ect...?

just a note to dario.....the "ram-air" hood for the grand am (the GT1 package) is totally NON-operational. solid pieces of black plastic fill the "ram-air" intakes on the hood, giving it no advantage whatsoever over a normal GT. very very stupid design

The Grand Am will win it.
Both cars have front drive, and the impala will stay planted off the line better simply based on it's weight. But the grand am has the weight advantage and considering the power is basically same the Pontiac will take it.
Not by a hell of a alot though, so i suggest that if you want your Impala to win, you need to be basically running on fumes as far as gas in the tank, have all the windows up, turn off the a/c or heat, the radio, everything that doesn't have to be on, turn it off!! Take EVERYTHING out of the trunk, and don't wear heavy clothes!
Then watch the lights and time it. If you can get the jump off the line and have nothing holding you back, you might be able to keep your lead.

PS: You need to do a 1/4 mile race as that's where your impala will do it's best work against the Grand Am.
