electrical problems

I recently replaced the after market stereo in my car with another after market unit. After installation, the fuses for both the stereo and the turn signals blew. I replaced all of them, but the turn signal fuse under the hood keeps going, while the stereo works fine. I think its drawing too much power, but I don't know how to fix it. A buddy suggested that I put some resistance or something on the stereo, but I don't really know how to. If anybody has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Since no one knows what kind of stero system you installed and how you installed it, you best bet is to get an electrical wiring diagram. If you have access to "All Data" and knows about electricity then it should be easy for you. In case if you don't know NEVER replace with a higher amp rating fuse unless you know what you are doing.

Definately sounds like it's wired wrong. Check the ground wire too.

check for a split wire or a lose ground

Thanks guys. It was a sony Xplode or something like that. I just noticed the wires for the old radio had been tampered with, and a small device had been added to the grounding wire. It looked like someone had wrapped a coil in a circle and made a solenoid, but I don't know what it really is or what it does.

you could always run and direct line from the battery with an inline fuse on it to the stereo and then ground the stereo to your chassie or use the same ground you are using. the only problem with doing it this way is that your stereo will always be on. you would have to turn it off every time you leave the car. or if you have any extra unused slots in your fuse pannel you could run the wire into that and connect the wires so that when you shut the car off it will turn the stereo off. if you don't know how to do that your local machanic should know how. it should not cost to much.
