87 grand am

my car had a grinding noise the other day and figured out it was the starter, well after i got the new starter put on it was still grinding, we put a new battery on it and after a few cranks the grinding stopped. The car will crank over normally now, but it wont start, i can smell fuel getting to it but i dont know if its flooding out or what all it does is crank if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it.... thanks

Umm,if you can smell fuel,thats not a good thing.You may have a gas leak.
