really, it depends wha your into, if your into Import cars and don't have alot of modeling expierience I recommend Tamiya
If you like Lowriders, Muscle cars and trucks, I'd say Revell,
I'd say the quality's about the same on both of them, (this coming from and expierienced modeler who built alot of kits, if you kids here saw the MPC 76 Chevy Monza i'm building right now you'd crap yourselfs. flash and mold lines, fitment problems.) The Revell has some fitment problems here and there but nothing a modeler can't fix. I've seen some really bad Revell kits though like there disgustingly inacurrate 70 Cuda. and I've seen some Tamiya kits be bady warped. (those damn boxes are too flat).
my personal recommendation is Tamiya, they build alot better but there priceyer them Revell. Tamiya also had fantastic costomer service like the availability of buying replacement parts.

I am closing this thread as i don't see it going anywhere (and we've had similar ones in the past that went the same way). If a particular model is made by several manufacturers, by all means ask for advice, this thread, though, is thread for thread's sake and is closed.
