Here are a few things to try;
1. Remove the Module & take to a auto parts store like "Auto Zone" & have them test it. (usually free)
2. Could also be the Crankshaft Sensor or Camshaft Sensor. I don't know of any easy way to test them off of the car. Replace & try is the only way to eliminate them.
3. The Computer could be a fault. These can be tested off car, but you will have to pay to have this done. You can also get an exchange computer for $150 that has been tested.
4. Look for damaged wiring harnesses, loose connectors or bad grounds. (You might want to remove the ground terminals and clean with a wire brush and reinstall them very snugly) These can reak havok on distributorless ignition systems and computer controls.
5. What symptoms did the car have before it failed to start?? Anything that happened just before the problem??

Good luck!!!

When I picked up my code scanner, I first started to try to read code with the key in the off position and got that message. Once I turned the key to on, I was able to connect and read codes.

autozone will not test ECMS ..also check with the local autozone near you on their NEW policy ..some locations DO NOT test anymore but some might still ..also I cross referenced the above trouble code with the chiltons, haynes and the 4" thick GM service manual and i couldnt find the code explanation you mentioned above whats the Code number?

autozone usually tested alternators , batteries and ran a code scanner for ur car .... and they pull off pulleys for yah ! ..hehehe

do it safely

I think the problem he was having was that the key was not on, therefore the scanner was reporting it could not link to the computer. Mine did the same thing when I first plugged my new code scanner into my car and tried to read the codes. I just had to turn the key to the on position.
