Hey everyone,

I am about to go and purchace new tires.

My two main choices are the Pirelli P7000 or Yokohama A520's.

Max performance is a must.:coolguy:

Size 205/40/17

Whats your opinion?
Is there another brand/tire I should look into?

Thanx everyone :D

hmm...hard choices...not sure but just to throw you off a little bit more, how bout some yokohama parada's :D

My choice would be TOYO Proxes Z rated. Those are some damn good tires. Won't break you piggy bank either. You can't rule out Nitto's either.

i like those dunlop sp8000's. kinda out dated now, but great grip for the price(in the summer).

I like Parada's, but these damn roads around here are
wet as hell. :(

I don't think they rated as well in the rain.

Shit...I live in Wadhington, I have Paradas. With the all the rain earlier in the year, I never missed a beat. Yok promotes the Paradas as wet and dry performance.

Fuck the Pirellis. I've had two sets (CN36 and P8) and they both sucked big-time. Pirellis tend to have soft sidewalls.

OTOH, I've had Yoko A520s and Paradas.

I bought the Paradas because of my very favorable experience with the A520s on my SE-R.

The A520 is the best rain tire I've ever driven on, bar none. They are incredible. We get acts of God here in Texas and the A520s are nearly unfazed. Where most tires slip rather dramatically when they aquaplane, the A520s just seem to hunt a bit.

The Paradas have been good so far. Haven't driven them through an act of God yet, but so far impressive.

Carrie Capuro from the SE-R Mailing List has tried both and reported the A520s have noticeably more grip. The A520s are a rather loud tire however. I'm still going to get another set for my SE-R. I'm sold on Yoks.

Thanks George,

My 17's are wrapped with A520's right now.

I've never had a chance to give them a good run,
because they were nearly bald when I bought the
rims.(Not bad for 400$ all around!)

I'll try the A520's (new this time)

I get a set of 40's every year from my girlfriend for
Christmas.:D

You go through a set of tires every year? Damn.... Does she buy them just because, or do you really need them?

I go through about 1 1/2 - 2 sets a year.

I live in Oregon, the land of no DEQ, and
plenty of country back-roads.

Plus the legal drags start soon.

Thanks for the info everyone:right:

I had good luck with Nitto 555zr's too. I probably wouldn't buy them again, but I didn't have any complaints, other than when they wore down, they got pretty slippery. They were leaps and bounds better than the 450's, and in the wet (all 5 times here in Az :hehe: ) in the monsoon rains (floods) they were great, never hydroplaned, just like Geo described, they hunted a little bit (when i pushed them). My next tire will most likely be a set of Falken Azenis, but i'm not sure how those would do for a rain tire?

hell yeah, they're pretty badass for the money also...i love'm.

btw, i've put about 18,000 miles and 2 rotations on them, i see only about 50% of the tread eaten up and they're still holding up wonderfully, these are a keeper for me

What do you think of them? I cam close to trying them, but I didn't have time to order them and had to buy tires locally. Fortunately we have pleny o' Discount Tire stores here in Houston. :D

Have fun trying to get a hold of A520's. I work at a tire/wheel store and we have got e-mails directly from Yokohama that say they are replacing the A520 and A540 with the new A550V and A550H. We can't even order the 520's anymore. Maybe you can find a wharehouse that still has some laying around. Of the A550's we have sold so far, there has been a very favorable response. Plus the tread design looks pretty sweet.

Initially I was to go with Kuhmo's .. since my mom's 92 Maxima has those and they have worked well on that car .. but the Nankang's are not bad at all. They hold up in all types of weather and I've been in rain, slush, some snow with them. I have enough thread on them and haven't lost control with the car during any of these conditions. I think if you give them a shot, you might like them :). I am pleased with them for being a, so called, "cheap" tire, but I am somewhat cautious driving with the Nankangs in unfavourable weather.

http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/wavey.gifHi all,

New to the list and have a couple of comments. I think the A520 is an excellent buy and a great rain tire. I tried them on my NSX and they were great. Very compliant compared to the oem Yokos which wanted to steer into every groove and rut.

I have not looked into availability, but if the Bridgestone SO2s are available in your size, they would be an excellent choice as well. MUCH more expensive, but awesome grip ... far better than the A520. Beautiful tread pattern as well. Shame the SO3 is not as good looking.:(

http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/wiggle2.gifThank you for the welcome. I am happy to find this forum. Honestly, I did not expect to find the G20 so well received by so many enthusiasts. Most people do not appreciate how great this little toaster is ... until they drive one.

http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/spin2.gifI love your wheels. I always wanted white wheels on my bike but the chain grease makes too much mess. And ... okay ... I am a bit lazy.

I have been wanting to modify the G20 for awhile and am having a bit of trouble getting performance springs for it. After waiting three months, the technician ended up with rear springs that don't fit the dampers. I will try the stock springs with the new shocks and see how that goes. Very disappointing.

The NSX is really in a class by itself. But it goes through tires like you would not believe. I am on the third set already in less than one year. It is expensive to run the low profile SO2's so I may put the stock wheels and A520s back on for cool weather driving. Of course getting a set of wheels to the shop is no small feat in an NSX, either.

When I bought my G20, I was in the dark as to what to do with it. Then I found this place and now I'm modifying like gang busters! :D - there are many helpful people here that are willing to help you with your questions. Also, there's lots of info on what you can do with YOUR G- so if you haven't done so, look around and ask away!

That's the downfall with white rims. Many people don't like them because they get dirty because of the break marks. But like I mentioned.. I wash my G every week, so I make sure to keep them clean looking :). I would never drive around with my rims looking blackish or yellowish. Plus, you can't really see the brake marks unless you are really up close to the car. I said it in the other thread, people hate white cus they are LAZY! - just spray some cleaner on them, let stand ..wash off and dry them off, simple! :). I LOVE WHITE - all you haters, kiss my bum bum!

3 pairs of tires in a year ..swoosh! But then again, look at the car it's not like it drives like a tractor - with the speeds you can push with the NSX, it's no surprise it can eat up tires like that.

Good thing you're ok - saw the pictures of the accident you were in! Mind you, the NSX looks BETTER after the crash - maybe you were using a better camera.

You have some nice toys .. and what better place to drive them than in beautiful BC :). Haven't been there myself .. but have only heard great things. I wish the roads here in Toronto were half as decent as other cities.

Oh and I'm sure many of us would love to see pictures of your G :).

Thanks for the info Pnut, wecome and I hope you feel at home here:D

I am having a bit of trouble getting performance
springs for it.(G20)

I can think of at least 5 different brands you can choose from.

Sounds like plenty of fun to me. We have some pretty bad ones here, too!

Got the G back today with KYB AGX shocks. Still have the oem springs untl we can figure out what to do. It handles nicely over smooth pavement but jumps around too much on the highway to be comfortable so I will need to soften them up just a bit for the street. Right now they are set at 2 front and 4 rear.
Merry Christmas to all of you http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/cheers.gif

eye see most of you guys are running 205/40s if you have 17s. i would rather use 215s, is that doable with a 17? i would use 16s but i plan to get 300zx tt brakes & I hear they don't quite fit in a 16" rim. if i can use a 215 R17 tire, anybody know what aspect ratio to use? i saw a page about this (rim-aspect ratio-width relation) a long time ago & lost the url.
