My Eldorado
Accordability

i figured since this forum is not as active as other forums i've decided to include all of you in on my progress of my 1992 Cadi Eldo. i purchased this vehicle on ebay from someone in Worchester, MA the body is in reasonable shape and the motor runs smoothly. i stole it for $1500. the problems i noticed was a air ride problem, a need for a strut arm bushing and the drivers window wouldn't move at all.
i drove the car from Worchester to Springfield, MA. there i registered it and drove it about 250 miles in a two day period (just to make sure it was road worthy) and enjoyed a reasonable mpg average of 23.8 mpg (mostly city driving). then came the real test, the 12 hour/750 mi trip to my home in Greensboro, NC average mpg=28.7 (i attribute that to the snowy conditions i encountered from Baltimore, MD to just outside of Richmond, VA). it passed that test with flying colors, aside from the slight bounciness and sway.
when i got home, that's when i found some issues that needs to be addressed, i popped the hood and noticed that i had a crack in the manifold (about $40 at junk yard). a muffler (about $25 for a universal fit at AutoZone). and the trottle body was horrible ($3 can of injection cleaner and elbow grease). i personally believe that my mpg should increase at least some. i found a window motor (which is inter-changable with MANY different GMs) for under $20. the air ride may have to wait until the spring.
when i get around to tuning it up (and weather co-operates) i've decided to go with Valvoline Durablend(5-30) for the oil and AC-Delco Platinum Plug for spark. i'm going to filter it out with Fram and let Accel do the ignition.
any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thank you in advance.
