wutup my names paul i got a 2000 toyota celica gts, im part of a car club called team x motorsports we are sponsered by nopi and travel to almost all of the car shows on the east cost and we host a few of are own. i need some advice on my car. it is practically done except for the motor i havent touched it yet. i have a full veilside ec1 kit on it, white rims cumsom 2 tone interior, custom dash, hood spoilers, t2 wing. i am redoing my system with 2 alpine type r's a 1200 watt jbl com amp and a 1500 watt kadence comp amp and a few other little specialties. so back to my motor, i know it has very high compression but i need speed and 190 right now isnt good enuff, i want a turbo kit, so if anyone has any or knows where i can get one from please email me the link, and if anyone knows any other modifications i can throw in my motor let me know thanks. and if anyone has ne ?'s about nopi event or want to attend any shows let me kno. you can email me at [email protected] CONNECTICUT

the GTS isn't turbo friendly with the high comp. ratio.
The most recent high power 00+ celicas I've seen are actually the GT model (1zz) with a SC.

They have atleast 2 there with good power.

Ok the GTS compression ratio is fricking 11.5:1, they made it that high so they coiuld actually get that 190HP out of 1.8L (very good efficiency actually), If you ran a turbo you probably couldnt run more than like 3lbs of boost hehe which wouldnt give ya much except probably just set off your knock sensors and retard your timing abunch. If you want a turbo youd have to buy new pistons and lower the compression to atelast 9.5:1 (lower for more boost), however your gas milage would massively suffer from what your getting now and that ALONE would cost around $600 bucks. Not only that but Toyota runs VVTL-I in that engine which is designed to work great on naturally aspirated engines but would actually lose performance under a turbo (leaving the valves open too long under high Rs would lose your cylinders compression).
190HP out of a 1.8L naturall aspirated is GREAT! My sisters 96 Accord 2.4L VTEC only pushes 160HP. What I would do if ya wanna make more HP:
First, get a good exhaust system with 4-2-1 headers, and a striaght thru muffler (glasspack). That would pickup 14-15HP at the wheels right there.
Second, get a good filter (perferable K&N) good for a HP or 2.
Third, if ya got the money send your heads off to be ported and polished, its an old shcool technique but it really works, a good job can give ya 20HP.
Raise the valve sping pressure so you can rev higher, get an Engine Management System (I think AEM makes one for that car), good plugs, good wires, good coil. Theres abunch more you could do but I wont list it all. Take car of number one and 2 first enless you REALLY want to turbo that thing.

i thought that the compression was 10.5:1 and i though that the gts put out 180 hp but thanx for the advice. would buying a gt change anything with the c/r or is it just as unfriendly?

Yeah your right it is 180HP but the compression on the GTS is 11.5:1... No the GT would be ALOT more turbo friendly than the GTS. GT has a completely different engine and only a 10:1 c/r. So you could probably get away with a few lbs of boost on the GT but 10:1 is still pretty damn high for a Turbo if you ask me... I wouldnt run over 5 or 6lbs if ya did turbo it. But if you ran a big enough intercooler, retarded the timing some and bought premium gas you could run alot more.
