ok whoever started this forum is a complete idiot, i mean come on everyone knows manual will win unless the dumbass cant shift at the right rpm's or even shift for that matter......cuz i know some kids with sweet rides with some decent hp but suck a driving stick becuz, idk they're just retarded, so before u ask this question think to urself who's shifts would be quicker ur's or the computers.....

tonster not true, there are some good automatic drag racing tranny's out there that can beat some of the best shifters,

the manual would win by a lot since AT's lose quite a bit more power through the drivetrain than a MT

It really depends on alot of things. If they both had the same rwhp i think the automatic would win. One reason is that i don't think the automatic loses boost pressure when shifting and the manual does. Also, you don't have to worry about driver error. Once you get into the high hp range, the automatic is definitely better. If you look at some of the fastest drag supra's around, they are almost all automatic.

Heads up guys, nothing can shift harder or faster than an automatic transmission. slightly modified with a good strong torque converter and shift kit, no person can push in the clutch shift and dump the clutch as fast as an automatic transmission can, and the faster you shift, the less the RPMS drop/load is decreased, IE the less boost pressure you lose. the trick from there is just the launch.
I hate to burst your bubble guys, but from 60 ft on, the automatic will kill the manual every time.

Um.. before u can say ANYTHNG.. u should do ur full research.. cuz theres places ive heard that ONLY ibn supras.. theres this thing.. which allows the auto Supras to be more faster.. THATS WHAT IVE HEARD FROM PPL.. PPL WHO SELL THEM.. but i still rather prefer a stick shift anyday.. Im soon gonna buy a 98 BPU..

the auto has the advantage in the drag but around the track it has no chance.

u guys do know that the 93's didn't come with a rev-limiter.. right?... that thing that doesn't limit high RPM.. i believe..

The auto would probably be a little quicker, but where's the fun in an automatic? LOL.
I would eat shit and die before buying an auto Supra.

Are we talking stock transmissions? A modified auto trans will be quicker than a standard H gate manual in the 1/4 mi because it can shift quicker. However if we are talking modified transmissios an air shifted manual or sequential dog box would have an edge. They use an electronic ignition cut instead of the clutch when shifting. Giving shifts that are just as quick giving the edge back to the manual. The other option is slam shifting. Rev out the engine and slam into the next gear without using the clutch. It is extremly hard on the entire drivelie, and requires a fair bit of pratice to find the correct RPM at which to shift. I do not recomend it, but I do know some guys that can do it. The shifts are so violent that traction loss is a big issue. Final answer: standard H gate shifter VS auto on the dragstrip....auto usually wins.

i have a auto 1987 stock and its beats a manual 1989 turbo both same boost and i get him by about 1/2 a car lenght over the 1/4 and he is not the worst at driving a stick out does me by far but still all depends on the box and how the boost is set to run in your car even though the auto looses rwhp in the drive train the fact that it holds boost whilst changing is enough to make the diffrence back

That's all well and good. And I do appreciate your video about trying to settle it. But it doesn't really prove anything. I would hope a manual car would beat a auto car from a roll. What the disscussion was about is who would win from a dead stop. I enjoy highway racing when it's a safe as can be but it all comes down to who wins from a stop.

Do the 93+ supras have the option to manual shift an auto tranny like the older supras?

i heard the fastest street legal supra was a twin turbo AT, i also heard that an AT tranny is better with the twin turbo because it handles the boost better or something like that??? Is this true?
flyinMKIV

don't know where you heard that one, the fastest street supra to my knowledge is Marko D. Who drove his car out to the track and ran a 8.45 @ 162 something in the 1/4 and then drove his car home. But I could be mistakened

ROFL!! oh god thats funny. alot of drag cars use manuals over automatics. though at's do have their advantages.
