ok i have a 96 explorer when i got it the left rear passanger door was hit lightly and the dash cluster reads door ajar when close. i had the car fixed (doors allined) but the cluster still reading door ajar and the lights still staying on when the doors are close. i have to pull the fuse so the battery dont die out. what i was looking for was the little pin that pops in and out when the door opens and closes thinking maybe the pin was bad but i cant find any pins ? so my question is anybody know where this pin is located to turn the interior lights on and off .
also this truck is control trac ? does this mean the 4x4 will kick in on its own ? cause when i drive the 4x4 lights kick in and out on its own....is this normal?

I am having the same problem. I have unplugged the door sensors that let the vehicle know a door is open and everything. I can't find the problem. I eventually just pulled the bulbs out of the lights rather than take the fuse out every day. I need some help on this too. Thanks, Tom

The switches are probably in the door latches. Start with the drivers door and spray penerating oil right into the latch and keep closing and opening the door. The lights should go out.

The problem might be your rear window sensor. My wipers stopped working, the dome lights stayed on and the door ajar light was on. I unplugged it and everything went back to normal. Tom

its Common In Ford Explorers For The Door Pin To Be Damaged And For The Door Light To Stay On, More Than Likely It Will Be The Door Pin, Where It Is Depends On The Year Of Your Vehicle, If Its A 1996 It Should Be On The Inside On The Flat Part Of The Door, By The Drivers Side Seat Belt, Take It Off And Disconnect It But Make Sure The Wire Doesnt Fall Into The Slot, So Hold It With Electric Tape Against The Body Or Manually, When You Disconnect It The Light Should Go Off After All The Other Doors Are Closed, Peace
