I've never heard an aftermarket intake that was quiet. You need a resonator to deaden the sound.
:iagree: w/ miataracer - STOCK w/ K&N filter

Dunno if this will help you, but to install my AEM CAI, I did it in a couple of steps. First, I already had a K&N drop in replacement for the stock filter in the stock box. I removed the resonator and the pipe that it's connected to and drove around for a week like that. It made huge amounts of noise, especially when I opened up the throttle... but at the same time I felt like I LOST power.
Then I pulled the entire stock intake and installed the CAI. This made it a lot quieter than stock with no resonator and I got the gain back. I noticed the CAI is a lot quiter than rams because the filter is so low in the bumper... this makes it much quiter in the cabin, and a little quiter outside. It just has that vacuum sucking sound.
So... from my experience, it seems that the resonator is the source of reducing a LOT of noise. Since none of the performance systems have a resonator, I doubt anythings going to be much quieter.

I don't know why you'd want it quieter, I love that sucking sound! But I guess if you prefer it that way - it's a free country. Cold air suck much more than the others, so if you want it quieter, steer away from that.
