I was having a prob with my 97 Jimmy.
The 4WD HI button wouldn't work.
After reading on here to disconnect my battery for 5-10 minutes,
I thought I would try that prior to more extensive work...and
VOILA..it works!
Thanks a heap to the person(s) who gave this suggestion!
Merry Christmas!!!

I'm sorry I don't know what else to tell you. Like I said, I just disconnected the battery and that was that.
Hope someone else on here can come up with a solution for you!
Take Care,
Jenn

Had the same problem in my 98 SLT. The problem is the switch itself. A $30 part, by the way. But it has poor electro-mechanical properties, ergo the low cost. Mine cost $300 for the dealer to replace. Disconnecting the battery only allows the switch circuits to cool because the switch is always powered on the hot lead. That's why they will work again. But in the end the switch needs to go. Newer switches, I'm told, are of better quality and until replaced the problems will continue. I now have instrument package problems....grrrrr... But that goes back to what the dealer had to do to get to the switch. Not much room up there to work. This is not a DIY job.
