Oil Pressure Gauge

Ok, still workin on this 91 RS 3.1L. Did not see the pressure before it was worked on but right now it is running straight 30W oil and the gauge is pegged beyond 80psi. It runs just fine of course but I am wondering if it is a problem or if it is the guage. I replaced the sending unit but it is still doing the same thing. Similarly, the Ameter gauge is almost is just one tick in the red. The other gauges, temp and fuel are fine.
Are these two gauges on a separate circuit? Am I running to thick an oil AND Alternator about to crap out? Ahhh the mysteries.
Thanks in advance.

you know i have that same problem. I was driving and the gauge just went crazy and the check engine light comes on and i replaced the sensor which was 20.00 and it doesnt clicker as much but after it runs it still looses pressure and the check engine light still comes on, anyone out there with a fix out there for this its driving me nuts!

Check the wire from the sending unit for a short. If it touches ground then it will pin.

um, just out of curiousity, why are you running 30W in the engine at all???? that would increase oil pressure, because its thicker and will be harder to push through the passages in the engine, if thats what youve been running, then you probly caused the problem yourself. as far as everything else, look for a short to gound like stingray said to do. that might even be why your alternator meter is high. i doubt that your alternator is suddenly putting out more power.

Hmm interesting. 30W? Is it really cold where you are? 10W30 should be good for you. Aside from checking for shorts, make sure that your gauge cluster is ok. A friend of mine had a similer problem and it turned out to be the cluster.
