need help, loud knocking sound from engine

i have a 89 toyota supra turbo automatic. it had a little ticking or knocking sound before around 3000 rpm or so but wasnt bothering me as i thought i was the transmission. a few days ago, i drove around and went into a puddle that wasn't that deep. the engine died right after i hit it. Is it that water got inside engine? i hope not, becuase now the car starts but has a very loud engine knocking sound like a valve is getting hit a lot. plz if anyone knows whats wrong plz tell me. thanks for listening

It could be a lot of things but from how you describe it I would say that some water got insode the cylinder and warped the piston causing it to knock around
