traction

i have had my 1.8t chipped by revo and i cant get any traction it just spins through 1st 2nd and a bit in thrid (even in the dry)

Well you just might want to be a little lighter on the gas. Also you might want to go to some bigger wider rubbers.

like what 215 225 or bigger i think its 205 at the moment and i have also been told i should lower it

ya you could lower it but that will help more your handling not traction. So ya just go bigger tires as for what size I dont know but, I would say go close to the largest size you can fit in thier.

lowering well help alot, the chasis wont lift up as much and tha allows more of ur tires to touch and ground. and as for wheels get wider but not bigger, if u strap on some 18s yea ull peel out less but ull lose performance... so u got tha. wider tires, lower car... and probaley most importantly... learn to feather the clutch and gas. intentional make the clutch slip.

what do you mean by feather the clutch (like hold the gas back with the clutch) also what is a diff i dont know much about engines

You do two things:

1) Don't drop the clutch so hard. Let it out slower and you won't spin.

2) Get a limited slip differential. This is the part in your transmission that transfers power each side wheel. It will give the wheel with more traction more power, and less for the wheel without. Quaife and Peliquin (sp?) both make LSDs for the GTI and both are around a grand.
