Just a question or 2 first....Being an '85,and having a carb, doesnt your truck have a mechanical (engine-driven) pump? Assuming you have an electric pump, you say "the fuel pump works"....how can you tell if its not getting any power?

Every 85 that I have seen has a mechanical pump...just ahead of the oil filter. Buster, have a look and see if you have one there. Possibly, its not working.
If you have an electric pump, where is it mounted?

Will first for Dr Blazer I am sorry it is fuel injected and second I took the fuel pump out of the gas tank and put a meter on the wires( going to the pump) I hooked the fuel pump to the battery the pump worked fine,
Now for ponco62 thanks for the info I will look at that when I get home

Buster...Ok then,if the pump works outside the truck, then I would check things like fuses or inline fusible links for no power at the tank.Check the plug at the tank where the pump plugs in and see if you have power there.

HAve you tried doing a voltage drop test on the fuel pump wires? Maybe you have a short to ground, or even an open in those 19 year old wires.
