Heater Core Replacement

I need to replace the heater core on my 1997 Tahoe myself or pay my mechanic about $300+ ... any thoughts? Is this something I can tackle myself? Any special tools necessary? Or is it just time consuming tearing out lots of dash? Thanks for any help.
