Hello,
I Just Tore Apart My Non-turbo To Do A Valve Job And I Had A Question About Timing. This Is My First Porsche And I Don't Want To Have To Re-do The Engine Again In The Near Future. I Have The Flywheel Mark At The Bottom Of The Engine At Top Dead Center. I'm Confused About The -10 Degrees. Do I Leave The Engine At Top Dead Center And Adjust The -10degres On The Cam Shaft Gear? Or Can I Just Line Up The Top Dead Center Mark And The Cam Mark And Put The Belt On? What Is The Reason For The -10 Degrees? Thanks For Your Help

If you have a TDC mark on the bottom of the flywheel then you don't have TDC. The TDC mark should be lined up with the pointer in the window on the back/top of the bell housing

On the 944 ('84? on), the TDC on the flywheel is at the bottom of the bell housing. Just line everything up at TDC and you should be fine. The -10 was for diagnosis only.

Although there is a notch at the bottom to be used as a reference the actual timing mark is at about 1 o clock if your at the front of the motor
