converting to strait axle

I was wondering if anyone was ever thinking about converting their 99 and up 1500 series 4x4 to a strait front axle. doing this will give you leaf spring in the front as their are on the rear. There is a guy here in hawaii that converted his 2000 to strait front axle . he said including a six inch lift it only cost him around $800 to complete. as where if we were to buy a six inch lift for our indepedent front suspension it would cost anywhere from $1200-$1700. plus a strait front axle is alot stronger and will outlast the independent but sacrifices the smoother ride. let me know what you think. and if it would be worth doing?
