I've edited this post to a shorter, more simple version.

A car accident last night, that was all due to speed, left a young woman from my area dead. Another fire station responded and a fire fighter from there, a close friend of mine, is now torn up over the situation. He tried his best to do something for her, and dispite his efforts and a medivac from the scene, she passed away this past evening. Now he is questioning if he even wants to remain in this business. The girl was the passenger. The driver escaped unharmed. Now I have a friend who's under some serious stress, and a family is now left less than a week from Christmas without their daughter. This is due to someone speeding well in excess of posted speed limits.

I beg you all to at least think before you do something that you know damn well is stupid; especially on the roads. When a firefighter or EMT is unable to save someone, it goes past putting a damper on their day. When a family loses one of it's members, it goes way beyond that. Please, thing. Be safe. Be smart. Have a nice Christmas everyone.

I don't know why people speed, most of the time I find the speed limits are fast enough, and don't see a need to go any faster. You know what they say - better late than never. We all get to where we're going sooner or later, so why needlessly endanger yourself and others by going 75mph in a 55mph zone? What's the big hurry? Everybody's always rushing like it's the end of the world - and for absolutely no reason at all It's sad when people have to die just because some self absorbed jackass in a hurry to get nowhere!!!

I agree... way too many ppl risk their lives just to get an extra 2 seconds or not have to stop at the next light. Leave the speed to the tracks.

A lot of people I see are in a hurry to go no where, they take off at the light and start to speed Just to come to another red light,

I always MAKE my friends put their seatbelt on. Im a seatbelt nazi.

Rather that than have a friend sized hole in my windshield...

A girl wouldnt put her seatbelt on while I was moving through a parking lot onto the road. She was talking on her cell. So I hit the brakes (at around 10km/h), and having leather seats, slid her right off the seat. Taught her good :D

Damn, sorry to hear your friend is taking it so hard. That is never easy to deal with. My grandfather was a firefighter in Boston for many many years. Along time ago I asked him how he could deal with things like you have just said. He told me there where many times he would just have to sit and think about what he was doing in this line of work. Then it would come to him that someone needs to deal with it and he was up to the job at hand. But, dealing with the loss is hard and takes a strong person. Yet, the true test was keeping from killing the boneheads that cause these wrecks and walk around crying after the damage was done. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

oh I'd probably be crying if I had done something that stupid and gotten a friend killed. I don't know how I could live knowing that I'd cost someone their life being stupid. If you're in a wreck and you're doing everything within the law and such and you simply couldn't help it, and someone dies due to the wreck, I feel for you. But when you're doing an estimated 80 in a 35/40 and kill your friend in the passenger seat doing it, I have no mercy for you.

being high beamed by a truck or SUV is part of driving a car. Their headlights just happen to be at your eye level. and speeding up to a red light is just plain stupid...speeding off as soon as the light turns green is too. How many times have you seen someone try to get through a yellow and speed up, only to have the light turn red as they're getting into the intersection? What if you floor it and happen to be right in front of them when they're coming through?

That's because, a specific design intent of SUVs is to annoy and put into constant danger drivers of sensible machines. The headlights are placed high, to blind and distract drivers, so they're more likely to get into accident. :grinno:
