I had a porsche mechanic tell me recently that the K&N Filter I have on my car actually REDUCES the HP because I'm drawing in hotter air from around the engine as opposed to the cooler air from the dam. Is this true?

It depends. If you have a conical filter than its possible because of course heat rises but there is a conical filter firewall type thing Lindsey Racing sells that helps keep enginen heat away from the filter. There is also a a head light cover that has a slot for air to hit the air filter. Best thing is to keep the stock air box and just buy a regular square k&n filter. I have a MAF kit and have to use a conical filter but there is a MAF kit that uses the stock air box.

The best bet is use the air box and modified it to allow for increases air.

I looked at Lindsey Racing website and didn't see a firewall to deflect heat coming from the engine. I suppose it wouldn't be that difficult to rig up...
