Hey guys, I got an 2002 Eclipse GT and I'm looking at an exhaust system. I read on the 3rd Generation Website that the stock cat-back is pretty well designed. Does anyone know a good sounding universal muffler that fits? Also what is the size that I need to look for? I know they use 2.25" piping but do I need to know another size to order one? Also do 4 cylinder mufflers sound good with the v6?? Thanks

I would suggest the Magnaflow Race Series for the 3G. This was designed to both fit the exhaust and create a good sound. Using the Street Series ( 4 cyl version) will cause your exhaust to sound very raspy/ricey. it is $95 plus shipping and if you have a hookup for welding, the total cost can be less than $150.

The opposite is true for the Mangaflow Street Series. This muffler was designed specifically for the 4 cyl version of the 3G. The sound it produces is a very deep sound. If you put the Race Series muffler on the 4 cyl, it will also become raspy. By removing the resonators from the exhaust, you will get a power gain of 3-4 hp including the muffler. But with the removal of the resonators brings a very obvious raspy sound between 2500 and 4000 RPM. Below that the muffler retains the low bellow and above 4000 RPM, the engine quiets down. If you have an intake, you will hear the intake more than the exhaust.

Again, the cost is $95.

get the magnaflow base muffler. i think it sounds better, and adds just as much horse power. the race series is a little ricey for me. but this is me. i got the whole cat back, and got rid of the resonator. it sounds REALLLLLYYYY GOOOOOOOOD!

If you want a whole exhaust system, I'm getting the Greddy Evo II put on and www.moreracingpower.com will match and/or beat any price you can find (except if its on eBay) and they do free shipping =) I got my exhaust system for $480 shipped

Jeepers I'm so reply happy today I think...lol the point of the Greddy was that I was looking for something with a more aggressive sound rather than ricey, and a friend posted some sound clips up and I loved it! They're posted under "Magnaflow or Flowmaster?" if you scroll down a bit.

will the street seriers from magnaflow b4 better buying than the cat-back? the cat-back will let my intake work better so will the street series do the same?

you don't need a full cat back so there is no point in wasting the extra your stock piping is the same size as some of the aftermarket cat-backs that are out there

if magnaflow is 2.25, and so is the stock, then it would be pointless to buy catback, if you want the magnaflow sound.

I would get the Greddy Evo II. The piping on that is 2.5 and it sounds agressive. not the ricy sound a loud deep tone.I love that exhaust
