AEM intakes vs.. Intercooler...

AEM cost around $100 and Intercooler cost around $400...which one is better? Or it works the same? I th ink intercooler increases more power...but AEM is cheaper..so Which is the one is better for my CRX?

well, if you haven an intercooler(unless you're referring to the intercooler style intakes that go where the intercooler would, which I doubt you are...) then you're probly turbo'd which means you dont need an intake because the air is compressed and coming from the turbo. And you actually dont need an intercooler it just cools down the air and I've heard of it cooling the charge as much as 273 degrees. So I really dont know how to answer your question, maybe you'd like to change it.

How does the normal cold air intake work? Does it work the same as AEM or Injen air intake?

Look dog, the AEM and Injen ARE normal cold airs. Are you talking about intercooling a car that has no turbo? I've read some of your posts before, and they don't read too clearly. Please clarify some of this. I don't think you could intercool an N/A car. Just buy an AEM w/ bypass valve. Or, if you live in SoCal or somewhere like that, buy the new V2. If it IS turbo, then I'm lost. Good luck-----

On an all-motor car there will hardly be a difference, maybe like 4-5 horsepower. Think that's worth $400? I mean I guess you could run a pipe down to an intercooler and pop a K&N on the other side of it... but if I ever saw that at a get together I'd kick that fag in the nutsack because it's so gay.

yes, I'd agree with Blu Civi b/c some of my friends said that it increase more air from Intercooler and also increase power even if you dont have turbo..you could replace a intercooler instead of cold air intake

Doesnt the turbo suck a shitload of air through the intercooler which is why it cools off so much air? If it was n/a I dont think you would feel anything because the throttle body alone isnt going to suck in that much to make a difference. A waste it would be.

The throttle body doesn't do any of the "sucking", it's the vacuum created from the cylinders pulling down while the intake valves are open. A turbo pulls in more air, but that doesn't necessarily make it colder. The intercooler is up front because cold air low to the ground goes blasting through it, making the actual pipe cooler, which makes the air inside cooler and denser. The reason the little tubes through the front mount are so small is because that makes less surface area to cool.

A good analogy is ice. Put a little ice cube tray in the freezer, next to a bucket of water and see which one freezes first.. obviously the little cubes will. Now look at little tubes compared to one big tube and do the math.

An intercooler will make the incoming air cooler whether turbocharged or not, but you'll see hardly any gains w/out a turbo because n/a you're not sucking in nearly as much air for it to make a difference. It's like the difference between a cold air intake and a short ram. The short ram pulls in warm air, the cold air pulls in cooler air, and there's only a difference of like 2hp.

there has been no research done on comparing a cai vs. an intercooler and it would be really stupid if there was. as far as boost, there will be none since u don't have a turbocharger. the purpose of the intercooler is to cool the air coming from the turbine which can be hot due to the high temp exhaust waste making the the turbo and air being compressed hotter. in your case all u are doing is making cold air just a tiny bit colder if even that since it can only cool air to a certain extent.

oh i forgot the good thing about it. well you've now got the intercooler might as well get the rest of the turbo kit.

You run an intercooler on a turbo setup because when you compress any gas the temperature of the gas goes up, you dumb fuck. What are you going to accomplish by having ambient air flowing through the core trying to cool off ambient air? Nothing, no transfer of heat is going to take place. All its going to do is reduce your power by placing a greater restriction on the motor. If this was some great scheme of yours to make your CRX faster, I can't wait to see how th erest of your life is going to pan out :uhoh:

We all know that you can (install an intercooler on an NA car).... What makes US different from the real fuckwits (read = YOU) is that we know it is not going to help. The main reason that you install a CAI is that it is less restrictive than a stock air box. Tha is becuase the intake tube is much sraighter and of larger diameter. In the case of the AEM V2 in my car it is 4in. An intercooler if it is as I understand it starts out as a large pipe and then breaks off into a bunch of little ones allowing the air to be cooled in radiator fashion. This is just going to slow the air down and you are going to get even less into the motor. Tell me how this sounds like a good idea to you?
BTW I already know you are the least intelligent person i have ever had to conversate with but for the sake of the other readers of this post please say something else to make sure they know it also.
