I just fixed a coolant leak on my g/f's car today and there is coolant all over her belts, causing them to squeal. Would it be ok to use this on her car? I've heard both good and bad outcomes from doing this. Anyone?

I don't think there would be any harm.. but make sure not to get any inside ur distributor cap. I did once when i was using the degreaser then my car wouldn't start.. so I had to take off the cap and try it out then it started.

Replace the belts, coolant will make them weak & eventually crack. Did the timing belt get wet? definately replace that if it did.

What he said :icon16:

Other than that, no, the degreaser at car wash's won't hurt. Just take a plastic grocery bag & wrap it around the distributor - I had the same problem as InJ3cted

Yeah, now an updated part of the story....I thought I fixed the leak, but I didn't. I thought it was a loose clamp, but then i noticed a big puddle of coolant on my garage floor still after I thought it was fixed. Took another look.......waterpump is leaking from the shaft between the pulley and pump :(. I've never done it before, and its a serpentine belt, which I don't know much about, besides for the self tentioner is a pain in the ass. This looks like its going to be a pain the ass, do you guys thing I should just tell her to take it to a shop? Stupid fucking oldsmobiles....

Engine degreasers are often kerosene (which is the same as deisel and jet fuel, and fuel oil). It can make your belts squeal too. There are belt dressing products that are supposed to help with slippy belts......or replace it.

Its a GM? Why didn't you say before?
Water pump is pretty easy on that car. Whats the process? I dunno I would have to see it.

Thanks guys. I got a few weeks to decide if I'm going to do this or not, cause no shops in the area have an openings until the new year.
