Ok, I know you all will roll your eyes when you read this, but im a computer dork, not a car dork. I have a noise comming from my engine. It isnt consistant, but when idling it gets louder. It soundes a lot like something is spinning, but what do i know. I know it is not the belts because the sound is not comming from anywhere near them. It is comming from the top middle part of the engine above where the spark plugs are. I have a 96 GSX. This is a pic of where i think it is comming from, but i have no idea what im looking at. Any ideas?

that would be your intake manifold and does it hum or whistle, if so you probably have a vacuum leak or some sort of leak around the manifold... take some starting fluid and spray where it meets the engine and all the hoses that are comming off of it. also you might want to spray where the intake hose meets the trottle body (big black hose meets the metal) ;) lts us know what you find out.

Hehe thanks... ill check it in the morning. And its not a whistle... more like a hum from something being rubbed agaist metal. It it varies in speed as well as noise.

I went to Autozone to pick up some spray, and one of the guys there wanted to listen to it. He said it sounded like bearing in the drive pulley... which is conveniently tucked in about 10 inches below the intake. Anyone have any idea's on that?
