where can/should i look for the 245 hp j-spec 3sgte turbo engine? has anyone encountered any problems with them? About how much do they cost (not including labor)?

The biggest problem you could run into with it is getting one that has been sitting in a warehouse for the last 8 months.
As for as cost, I presume that you are wanting to swap this into an MR2. That being the cast you would probly be best off going with a rear clip. It's basicly the back half of a Japanise MR2. It includes all the little things that you'd pay an arm and a leg to source if you bought an engine only. Things like water pump, this hose, that coupling, ect ect... You can get them for anywere from $3,000 to $5,000. To a certian extent you get what you pay for, but not always. If you find one for 3k or below, be sure you inspect it well before you buy.
I know places like Jarco Inc (http://www.jarcoinc.com/) and Neishlin Motors (http://www.neishlinmotors.com/) are reputable and many people have had wonderfull results from them.
