I have a 1989 Camaro Iroc-Z, and the service engine soon light came on. I brought it to my mechanic, who told me that my MAF was fried. The lowest price I've gotten is $500, which is terrible. Can anyone hook me up with something for less?

I wonder if the maf in your iroc is the same as the one in my 92 V6. If it is then I have one for you.

I have the 305 engine, so I'm not sure if that would work. I'll look for a part number or something. Its at my friends house now, but I can check later.

MAF's are not interchangable between different engines, like L98 on an LT1 won't work. Go to the chevy dealer and ask, they only have to carry parts for 10 years but they might have one they can get for you, or go to autozone, and it will be alot cheaper than 500 dollars.
That ebay link if for an ECU, not a MAF. A Mass Air Flow Meter looks like:
Yours should look similar

Yes, they make aftermarket MAF's. I can find a lot of them for my 1998 Z28, but none for the 89.

Well that blows. Sorry I wasn't much help. I don't know a whole lot about TPI. I'm more of a TBI/Carb guy. I'm sure when 89Iroc&RS gets on he'll have some info for you.

here i am to save the DAYYYYYYY!!!! lol, or well not. but i can have something for you after the holidays when i go back to work. one thing GM is well known for is parts interchangeablity. so the MAF on that 92 V6 might well fit the 89 305. ill check the part numbers at work and get back to ya. i think 500 for the maf is a bit high, does that include labor? that would make more sense. but the price would still be high, its a no brainer to put in. disconect one easy to get to plug, undo one screw clamp, and pull it off. put the new one in the reverce order. try ebay, and try aftermarket. i can still get parts for my 89 RS and IROC, so i dont know why you couldnt find one around. but like i said, i dont know off the top of my head right now, but ill look into it for ya. oh and merry xmas everybody :)
